Job Summary
The Lab Engineer is responsible for performing and overseeing dimensional measurement, inspection, testing, and analysis activities to ensure products and manufacturing processes meet quality standards, engineering requirements, and customer specifications. The role supports Quality, Production, and Engineering teams by providing accurate measurement data, conducting technical analysis, troubleshooting measurement issues, and ensuring laboratory equipment and processes comply with applicable quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional measurements, inspections, and technical evaluations using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, profile projectors, microscopes, and other laboratory instruments.
- Conduct First Article Inspection (FAI), in-process inspection, final inspection, and product validation according to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Perform measurement and inspection activities related to PCB (Printed Circuit Board) and FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) products.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and technical specifications to determine appropriate measurement methods.
- Analyze measurement data, identify abnormalities or trends, and prepare accurate technical and inspection reports.
- Investigate measurement discrepancies, product non-conformities, and quality issues, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop, improve, and validate measurement methods to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and reliability of inspection results.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI), engineering trials, process validation, and product qualification activities.
- Coordinate calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance of laboratory and measuring equipment.
- Ensure measuring instruments are properly calibrated and maintain accurate calibration and equipment records.
- Support Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R, capability studies, and other quality improvement activities where required.
- Work closely with Quality, Production, Process Engineering, and R&D teams to resolve product and process-related issues.
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with internal quality procedures, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, customer requirements, and company policies.
- Maintain proper laboratory documentation, inspection records, test results, and traceability.
- Identify opportunities to improve laboratory measurement processes, efficiency, accuracy, and equipment utilization.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory working environment.
- Perform other duties and engineering assignments as assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
Job Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metrology, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience in a PCB and/or FPC manufacturing environment, particularly in laboratory measurement, metrology, quality engineering, dimensional inspection, or related functions.
- Hands-on experience in PCB/FPC manufacturing processes, product inspection, measurement, or quality control is required.
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, profile projectors, microscopes, and other dimensional measurement instruments.
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, dimensional tolerances, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of measurement techniques, calibration systems, MSA, Gauge R&R, and basic statistical analysis is preferred.
- Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and/or IATF 16949 is an advantage.
- Knowledge of PCB/FPC manufacturing processes, materials, common defects, inspection criteria, and quality requirements is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Mandarin is an advantage, particularly for communication with Mandarin-speaking counterparts, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, both written and spoken.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and capable of preparing measurement data, reports, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good attention to detail with the ability to work accurately with measurement data.
- Good communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams.
- Able to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
