Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Enterprise HealthShare Architect
to serve as the technical authority for our InterSystems HealthShare and Health Data Exchange infrastructure. In this role, you will define the technical roadmap, design high-availability integration architectures, and lead large-scale complex integrations.
You will oversee key HealthShare modules (including UCR, EMPI, and Clinical Viewer) while establishing engineering standards and driving our modernization ourney toward
FHIR
and cloud-native architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Strategic Roadmap
Technical Ownership:
Define, own, and evolve the overarching technical roadmap and enterprise architecture for the HealthShare environment.
Component Oversight:
Architect and maintain core InterSystems components, including Unified Care Record (UCR), Clinical Viewer, Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI), and Care Management modules.
Modernization:
Lead the strategic transition toward modern healthcare interoperability standards, particularly
FHIR (RESTful APIs, profiles, and implementation guides)
.
Cloud Strategy:
Design and deploy high-volume, high-availability InterSystems productions across cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Integration & Engineering Leadership
Complex Integrations:
Lead design and development efforts for large-scale, complex integration projects using
InterSystems IRIS for Health and HealthConnect
.
Best Practices & Standards:
Establish and enforce best practices and coding standards for ObjectScript, Data Transformation Language (DTL), XSLT, and message routing workflows.
Performance & Data Modeling:
Perform advanced data modeling, system tuning, and performance optimization across the InterSystems tech stack.
Governance, Security & Leadership
Compliance & Security:
Ensure all integrations comply with healthcare security, privacy, and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, state HIE requirements).
Technical Governance:
Lead high-level design reviews, conduct architectural audits, and mitigate technical risks prior to deployment.
Mentorship:
Serve as a subject matter expert, mentoring developers, integration engineers, and systems analysts to raise the team’s overall technical maturity.
Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate with executive leadership, clinical stakeholders, and external partners to align business requirements with technical delivery.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
10+ years
of progressive experience in Healthcare IT / Health Informatics.
5+ years
of hands-on experience designing and architecting solutions specifically on
InterSystems HealthShare
.
Core Technical Expertise:
Deep expertise in
InterSystems IRIS, HealthConnect, Caché, and ObjectScript
.
Advanced proficiency with interoperability standards:
HL7 v2.x, C-CDA, IHE profiles (XDS.b, PIX/PDQ), and FHIR
.
Infrastructure & Design:
Proven track record of designing high-volume, fault-tolerant, high-availability integration environments.
Practical experience with
Cloud Architecture
(AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
Soft Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Certification:
InterSystems Certified HealthShare Architect or InterSystems IRIS Core Solutions Developer Certification.
EHR Systems:
Hands-on integration experience with major Electronic Health Record (EHR) platforms such as
Epic, Cerner (Oracle Health), or MEDITECH
.
Analytics:
Experience with InterSystems analytics tools (
DeepSee / Health Insight
).
DevOps:
Exposure to modern CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and automated testing frameworks tailored for InterSystems environments.
