Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Assistant Service Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance planning, and lifecycle management of diesel generator systems supporting mission-critical data center operations. The role is responsible for leading service teams, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, optimizing resources, and ensuring compliance with OEM standards, regulatory requirements, and service level agreements (SLAs) to maximize equipment reliability, availability, and uptime.
Acting as the key liaison between customers, field service engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, the successful candidate will drive operational excellence, enhance service delivery, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to support critical power operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Service Operations and Maintenance Management
• Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, reliability, and availability of diesel generator systems supporting mission-critical data center operations.
• Develop, implement, and maintain annual, quarterly, monthly, and weekly preventive and corrective maintenance plans in accordance with OEM recommendations, contractual requirements, regulatory standards, and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Plan and coordinate scheduled maintenance, equipment shutdowns, generator testing, load bank testing, synchronization testing, emergency response testing, major overhauls, and maintenance windows with customers and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption to customer operations.
2. Maintenance Planning and Work Order Management
• Create, review, schedule, and manage maintenance work orders through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Ensure all maintenance activities, inspections, service reports, testing records, and maintenance histories are accurately documented and closed in a timely manner.
• Track outstanding maintenance actions and ensure prompt resolution while maintaining complete asset maintenance records.
3. Resource and Spare Parts Management
• Plan and optimize deployment of field service engineers, technicians, contractors, and OEM specialists to support preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
• Coordinate the availability of tools, testing equipment, lifting equipment, and site resources required for maintenance execution.
• Forecast spare parts and consumables requirements based on maintenance schedules, equipment lifecycle, and reliability trends.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels for critical and long lead-time components while coordinating procurement and supplier performance to minimize service interruptions.
• Manage service budgets, optimize manpower and resource utilization, and implement cost-control initiatives without compromising service quality or equipment reliability.
4. Reliability, Compliance and Continuous Improvement
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with customer requirements, contractual obligations, operational standards, environmental, health and safety (EHS) regulations, permit-to-work procedures, and site-specific safety requirements.
• Monitor equipment reliability and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and operational performance.
• Participate in quality audits, operational reviews, and process improvement projects to strengthen maintenance planning, service delivery, and operational efficiency.
• Develop and maintain service procedures, maintenance standards, and best practices to support operational excellence.
5. Performance Monitoring and Technical Support
• Monitor, analyse, and improve maintenance and service performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
(a) Preventive Maintenance (PM) Completion Rate
(b) First-Time Fix Rate (FTFR)
(c) Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
(d) Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
(e) Generator Availability
(f) SLA Compliance
(g) Response Time
• Analyse maintenance trends, recurring failures, and equipment performance to identify improvement opportunities.
• Lead troubleshooting of complex technical issues, major equipment failures, and emergency incidents while minimizing operational downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and monitor effectiveness to prevent recurrence.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance and performance reports for management and customers.
6. Leadership and Stakeholder Management
• Lead, coach, mentor, and supervise field service engineers, technicians, contractors, and service partners, fostering a culture of accountability, technical excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules, outages, and service activities with customers to minimize operational impact and ensure service excellence.
• Attend customer operational and maintenance review meetings, providing maintenance plans, service reports, testing results, and performance updates.
• Build strong working relationships with customers, internal departments, vendors, subcontractors, and OEM partners to ensure effective service delivery and contract compliance.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, finance, legal, and commercial teams to support service execution, contract delivery, and operational objectives.
7. Business Support and Service Development
• Support service proposals, contract scope development, tender submissions, and aftermarket business growth initiatives.
• Analyse customer feedback, service performance, industry trends, and market developments to identify opportunities for service innovation, operational excellence, and revenue growth.
• Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance customer satisfaction, service capability, and long-term business competitiveness.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Power Generation Engineering, or a related discipline (Diploma holders with relevant experience may be considered); professional certifications are an advantage.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in diesel generator systems, critical power, data centers, maintenance planning, or service operations, with 2–3 years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
• Strong technical knowledge of diesel engines, alternators, generator control systems, fuel systems, and maintenance planning, with familiarity in CMMS/ERP systems, NFPA 110, ISO 8528, and data center operational standards.
• Demonstrated ability to manage maintenance planning, service budgets, manpower, spare parts, and operational resources to achieve high equipment reliability and cost efficiency.
• Strong leadership, planning, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with excellent written and spoken English.
