BBQ Chef – Job Description
Position: BBQ Chef
Department: Kitchen / Food & Beverage
Reports To: Head Chef / Kitchen Manager
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare, season, marinate, and cook a variety of meats, poultry, seafood, and vegetables for BBQ/grill service.
- Operate charcoal, gas, electric, or other commercial BBQ and grilling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Control grilling temperature and cooking time to ensure food is properly cooked while maintaining taste, texture, and presentation.
- Prepare BBQ sauces, marinades, seasonings, and other ingredients according to restaurant recipes and standards.
- Cut, portion, trim, and prepare meat and other ingredients before cooking.
- Monitor food quality, freshness, portion size, and presentation before serving.
- Ensure raw and cooked food is handled and stored separately to prevent cross-contamination.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of BBQ stations, grills, exhaust areas, utensils, equipment, and surrounding work areas.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and hygiene requirements at all times.
- Check and maintain sufficient stock of meat, seafood, vegetables, sauces, seasonings, charcoal, and other BBQ supplies.
- Assist with receiving, checking, storing, and rotating food ingredients using FIFO principles.
- Minimise food wastage and ensure proper portion control.
- Coordinate with kitchen and service staff to ensure customer orders are prepared accurately and promptly.
- Carry out daily opening and closing procedures for the BBQ station.
- Report equipment defects, food quality issues, or stock shortages to the supervisor or management.
- Assist with kitchen preparation and other cooking duties during busy periods when required.
- Perform other kitchen-related duties assigned by the Head Chef or management.
Requirements
- Relevant experience as a BBQ Chef, Grill Cook, Chef, or similar kitchen position preferred.
- Knowledge of BBQ/grilling techniques, meat preparation, marination, and temperature control.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety practices.
- Able to work in a hot kitchen environment and stand for extended periods.
- Able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
- Able to work effectively as part of a kitchen team.
- Good attention to food quality, consistency, cleanliness, and presentation.
