Job Description

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily routine

1.  Review and follow up on isolation cases, MRDO, and infection control incidents.

2.  Analyse infection surveillance data and trends to identify potential outbreaks early and facilitate timely investigation and intervention to prevent the spread of infection.

3.  Conduct surveillance, audits, and data collection.

4.  Conduct infection control rounds and monitor compliance.

5. Provide advice and support to healthcare workers and Link Nurses/Personnel.

6.  Provide infection control education and training.

7.   Prepare reports on infection control issues and follow up on corrective actions.

8.  Monitor and ensure the timely notification and submission of notifiable diseases in accordance with MOH requirements and guidelines.

Administrative duties and responsibilities

1. Assist in coordinating and participating in HIACC and AMS meetings, and to follow up on infection prevention and control matters.

2. Assist in coordinating Infection Control Link Nurse/Link Personnel (ICLN/ICLP) activities, including meetings, training, and programmes in accordance with MSQH requirements.

3.  Assist in maintaining accurate documentation, minutes, records, and follow-up actions for HIACC and ICLN/ICLP activities.

4.  Assist in the development, review, implementation, and revision of infection control policies and procedures in accordance with current guidelines, statutory regulations, and accreditation requirements.

5.  Collaborate with relevant departments and assist in the development, review, implementation, and monitoring of infection control-related policies, procedures, and Work Instructions (WIs).

6.  Monitor MDROs, infection trends, and potential outbreaks, and promptly report findings to the ICN Manager for appropriate investigation and control measures.

7.  Assist in the reporting, investigation, documentation, and follow-up of infection control-related incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.

8. Provide infection prevention and control advice and guidance to healthcare workers in accordance with current guidelines and best practices.

9.  Assist in implementing appropriate infection prevention and control measures based on identified risks, hospital needs, and regulatory requirements.

10. Assist in planning and conducting infection control orientation programmes for newly appointed doctors and staff, as well as refresher and in-service training for relevant healthcare workers.

11.  Assist in providing infection prevention and control advice and guidance to Hospital Management, vendors, contractors, and relevant departments for hospital expansion, renovation, construction, and commissioning projects.

12. Participate in infection prevention and control quality improvement initiatives, audits, and improvement programmes, and assist in monitoring their effectiveness.

13. Assist in the timely implementation and follow-up of infection prevention and control action plans, audit findings, recommendations, and improvement initiatives.

Risk management and Quality improvement

1.  Assist in investigating infection control-related incidents, including conducting root cause analysis and following up on corrective and preventive actions.

2. Assist in planning and conducting hospital-wide infection control audits to identify gaps, monitor compliance, and improve infection control practices.

3. Assist in collecting, monitoring, and analysing infection control quality indicators to identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement.

4. Assist in initiating and following up on corrective and preventive actions to reduce infection risks and strengthen infection control practices.

5. Assist in participating in quality improvement initiatives, infection control awareness activities, and relevant staff health programmes.

6.  Assist in providing advice and recommending appropriate infection control measures to relevant personnel based on identified risks, surveillance findings, and current guidelines.

Support Antimicrobial Stewardship

1. Assist  the AMS Team in planning, implementing, monitoring, and supporting the hospital’s Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Programme.

2.  Assist in monitoring and analysing MDRO trends and antimicrobial resistance patterns in collaboration with the Microbiology and AMS Teams, and support the implementation of appropriate infection prevention and control measure.

3.          Assist in planning and coordinating education and awareness programmes for healthcare workers on MDRO prevention, antimicrobial resistance, and appropriate infection control practices.

4.          Assist in reviewing, updating, and implementing infection control guidelines related to antimicrobial resistance and MDRO management in collaboration with the relevant teams.
