The successful candidate shall have practical experience in electrical switchgear, switchboards, control panels, Ring Main Units (RMU), electrical distribution systems and associated control equipment.
The candidate must be competent in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and Single Line Diagrams (SLD) and should be capable of preparing, modifying and updating basic electrical drawings.
The position also requires good electrical troubleshooting ability together with intermediate knowledge of process control, PLC and industrial control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Systems & Maintenance
· Carry out inspection, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of electrical installations and equipment.
· Diagnose electrical faults and carry out systematic fault finding to identify root causes and appropriate corrective actions.
· Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of LV electrical distribution systems, switchboards, switchgear, MCCs and control panels.
· Inspect electrical components for abnormal conditions including overheating, loose connections, insulation deterioration, mechanical wear and equipment failure.
· Carry out electrical isolation, testing and reinstatement of equipment in accordance with approved safety procedures.
· Support electrical installation, modification, testing and commissioning works.
· Perform electrical wiring, cable termination, continuity checking, insulation testing and other electrical testing as required.
Switchgear, RMU & Substation
· Possess practical experience working with Ring Main Units (RMU) and electrical equipment installed within substations.
· Carry out routine inspection and preventive/corrective maintenance of RMUs, switchgear and associated equipment.
· Understand the basic operating principles and functions of MV/LV distribution systems.
· Be familiar with switchgear components, protection devices, interlocks, indication circuits and control circuits.
· Assist with testing, maintenance, fault investigation and restoration of substation electrical equipment.
· Recognise abnormal equipment conditions and escalate defects that may affect electrical safety or system reliability.
Control Panels & Electrical Components
· Possess strong practical knowledge of electrical control panels and their associated components.
· Able to identify, test, replace and troubleshoot components such as:
· Familiar with major electrical and automation component manufacturers such as Schneider Electric, Siemens, ABB, Mitsubishi Electric, Omron, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or equivalent.
· Able to identify suitable replacement components based on electrical ratings, specifications and application requirements.
Electrical Drawings & Documentation
· Able to read, interpret and prepare Single Line Diagrams (SLD).
· Able to read electrical schematic diagrams, control circuit diagrams, wiring diagrams, termination drawings and panel drawings.
· Able to trace electrical circuits using drawings during troubleshooting.
· Update drawings and documentation following electrical modifications or maintenance works.
· Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, testing and fault records.
PLC, Process Control & Automation
· Possess at least intermediate knowledge of PLC and process control systems.
· Understand basic PLC architecture, digital and analogue I/O, input/output modules and field devices.
· Able to perform basic PLC fault diagnosis and identify whether faults originate from field devices, wiring, I/O modules, PLC hardware or control logic.
· Understand basic process control concepts including sensors, transmitters, controllers, actuators and feedback/control loops.
· Able to perform basic I/O checking and signal tracing.
· Familiarity with PLC platforms such as Siemens, Schneider Electric, Mitsubishi, Omron or Allen-Bradley will be an advantage.
· Knowledge of HMI, SCADA, VSD/VFD and industrial communication systems will be an added advantage.
Troubleshooting Competency
The candidate must possess strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and be capable of systematically diagnosing electrical and control faults.
He/she should be able to:
· Read drawings and trace circuits to locate faults.
· Use electrical test instruments effectively.
· Differentiate between power, control, instrumentation and PLC-related faults.
· Troubleshoot motors, starters, control panels, switchgear and field devices.
· Identify defective electrical components and recommend appropriate replacement or corrective action.
· Analyse recurring failures and assist in determining root causes rather than simply replacing defective components.
Qualifications & Experience
· NITEC / Higher NITEC / Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Process Control or equivalent technical qualification.
· Preferably 3–5 years of relevant hands-on electrical maintenance experience.
· Practical experience working with electrical systems in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, utility infrastructure, plants or substations.
· Hands-on experience with switchgear, control panels and RMUs is strongly preferred.
· Experience in electrical testing, troubleshooting and preventive/corrective maintenance.
· Able to read and prepare electrical SLDs and interpret electrical/control schematics.
