About The Role

The Innovation & Enterprise Office (Ventures) advances SUTD’s efforts in translating innovations, creative work and tech into real-world impact. This role plays a critical role in partnering SUTD inventors in managing and translating their technology and innovations. He/she will also work closely with venture partner colleagues in the I&E team in licensing discussions and supporting spinoffs.


What You Will Do

1.IP Strategy

  • Align IP strategy with broader SUTD strategic outcomes.
  • Lead the design and review of IP related policies, commercialisation frameworks, and tech licensing best practices.
  • Manage the university’s IP portfolio with a view to leverage and commercialise higher-potential technologies.
  • Monitor the IP commercialisation pipeline and manage the dashboard to track key success metrics.

2.IP Portfolio Management

  • Coordinate the submission of Technology Disclosures (TDs) by SUTD inventors which includes conducting preliminary assessments of the TDs and facilitating internal reviews to arrive at patenting decisions.
  • Assess disclosed inventions and applied research outputs for commercial potential, market relevance, and scalability.
  • Set up and maintain dashboards to track the IP lifecycle from the point of disclosure to commercialisation.
  • Manage the patenting process by working closely with patent attorneys and firms in IP protection and prosecution activities and managing the budgets associated with these activities.
  • Recommend which technologies to prioritise, pause or stop based on commercial readiness and market demand.

3.IP Commercialisation and Licensing

  • Advise inventors on IP strategies to facilitate commercialisation together with venture building colleagues.
  • Lead licensing discussions with spinoffs together with venture building colleagues.
  • Act as main point of contact for portfolio of licensee companies ensuring regular engagement and updates with a clear understanding of each licensee’s milestones and requirements.
  • Manage and grow the licensee portfolio.

4.Other Strategic and Ad-Hoc Initiatives and Projects undertaken by the Office


Who We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM.
  • 15 years or more of experience in IP management and proven track record in licensing and enabling tech commercialisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts into clear market and commercial narratives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with inventors and industry partners
  • Familiarity with deep tech domains.
  • Experience working in lean teams and driving changes.
