About the role

Ooi Yamamoto Malaysia is the Malaysian office of a Japanese seafood and food trading group with over 400 years of history, operating across Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. From our office in Subang Jaya we import and distribute frozen and chilled seafood and Japanese food products to hotels, restaurants, caterers and retailers. We are expanding from distributor-led coverage into direct HORECA and retail accounts, and growing beyond the Klang Valley into other regions of Malaysia. This position carries real territory ownership and regional exposure — you will open accounts, not just service them.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and grow direct HORECA accounts — hotels, restaurants, Japanese and Western dining, caterers and central kitchens — and retail and specialty grocery accounts.

• Open new accounts and service existing accounts in assigned territories, including regional markets outside the Klang Valley, with planned travel and visit schedules.

• Present products, arrange tastings and demonstrations with chefs and purchasers, and record all samples issued on the sample issue form.

• Prepare quotations, negotiate pricing and close orders.

• Work with the distribution partner and appointed distributors on coverage, special price customers and joint calls.

• Submit weekly sales reports and next-month customer forecasts as input to the import forecast order.

• Keep customers updated on product availability, incoming arrivals and restock dates, working with the supply chain team.

• Monitor own accounts' outstanding payments and support collection within agreed credit terms.

• Report competitor activity, pricing movement and market feedback to the General Manager.

About you

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Hospitality or a related field. A strong sales track record will be considered in place of qualification.

• Minimum 4 years in food, frozen food, seafood or FMCG sales, with proven account opening.

• Existing HORECA or retail network — chefs, purchasing managers, F&B managers, buyers — is a strong advantage.

• Frozen or chilled product knowledge preferred, including handling, shelf life and cold chain basics.

• Willing to travel outstation for regional account development and to work flexible hours around customer schedules.

• Experience handling tenders, sales campaigns and promotions.

• Possess own transport and a valid Malaysian driving licence.

• Good command of English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin.

• Comfortable with Excel and reporting; able to work to written duties, targets and deadlines, and to take an account through to completion.

• Self-driven, presentable and comfortable dealing with chefs, owners and purchasing decision makers.

• Basic salary: RM4,500 – RM5,500 per month, commensurate with experience, plus a commission scheme on sales achievement and new account acquisition.
