Job Description

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Manager, Commercial Shipping & Trade Execution to oversee the end-to-end marketing, chartering, and maritime logistics for our international coal trading portfolio.

In this dual-capability role, you will be responsible for originating trade opportunities, negotiating commercial coal contracts, and managing dry-bulk freight execution across key regional markets, with a primary focus on Indonesian supply routes and Asian discharge destinations.
Key Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Business Development:
  • Identify and secure thermal coal sales and purchase contracts with miners, utilities, and international trade counterparties.
  • Monitor global dry-bulk commodity trends, coal indices, and freight pricing to optimize trading margins.
  • Negotiate commercial contract terms (Incoterms, quality specifications, payment terms, and laytime/demurrage clauses).
  • Shipping & Freight Execution:
  • Plan, charter, and manage dry-bulk vessel logistics (Barge, Supermax, Panamax) for coal shipments originating from Southeast Asia (predominantly Kalimantan and Sumatra).

  • Oversee port operations, loading/discharging schedules, customs clearance, and transshipment operations.
  • Manage vessel laytime calculations, demurrage/despatch claims, and commercial maritime dispute resolutions.
  • Liaise directly with shipowners, charterers, port agents, surveyors, and coal concession owners to ensure smooth cargo operations.

    Requirements

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution.
    • Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of direct experience in dry-bulk commodity trading, maritime shipping, or vessel chartering within the coal or energy sector.
    • Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of dry-bulk shipping contracts (Charter Parties, Bills of Lading, COAs) and coal trading contracts.
    • Regional Market & Cultural Expertise: Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia (written and spoken) is strongly preferred due to extensive daily interactions with Indonesian coal miners, port authorities, vessel owners, and local agencies.
    • Analytical Skills: Strong numerical, contract negotiation, and risk management skills.
