Job Description

Responsibilities

We're looking for a Lookdev Artist to help shape the look of our various projects in Unreal Engine 5. You'll transform concept art and visual references into production-ready materials, textures, and shaders that deliver both visual quality and real-time performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret style guides, concept art, and visual references to create production-ready materials, textures, and shaders in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Create and refine textures, shaders, and material setups that support the project's artistic vision.
  • Develop and maintain master materials, material instances, and dynamic material systems for real-time rendering.
  • Collaborate closely with the Lookdev Lead, Asset Team, CG Supervisor, and Directors to achieve the project's visual quality and style goals.
  • Validate materials and textures under different lighting conditions to ensure consistency across shots and environments.
  • Review and refine textures, materials, and shaders to ensure they meet artistic and technical standards before final delivery.
  • Optimize materials and shaders to balance visual quality with real-time rendering performance.
  • Support asset integration and troubleshoot material, rendering, and visual fidelity issues within Unreal Engine.
  • Maintain visual continuity and lookdev integrity throughout the production pipeline.
  • Contribute to the development of look development workflows, material libraries, and production best practices.

Requirements:

  • Min. 2 years of professional experience in look development, surfacing, texturing, or material creation for animation, games, VFX, or real-time productions.
  • Strong portfolio or cinematic demo reel demonstrating look development, texturing, surfacing, shading, and material creation expertise.
  • Strong artistic eye with the ability to interpret and execute diverse visual styles and aesthetic directions.
  • Strong understanding of physically based rendering (PBR) workflows, material properties, and shading principles.
  • Experience creating materials, textures, and shaders for Unreal Engine or other real-time rendering environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Strong understanding of color management, Unreal Engine's Material Editor, and Lumen lighting systems.
  • Understanding of shader optimization and real-time rendering performance considerations.
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine Blueprint systems and Niagara to support dynamic or interactive material workflows.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
