The Junior Risk Engineer conducts home appraisal services in accordance with underwriting guidelines relating to property condition, construction, occupancy, security, and other relevant risk factors. The role supports the sales and underwriting team by identifying hazards, recommending risk improvements, assessing adequacy of insurance coverage, and preparing risk assessment reports for the team.
Role purpose
Support the Masterpiece underwriting team by assessing property and lifestyle risks for high-net-worth clients, with a focus on helping underwriters make informed, consistent, and profitable risk decisions.
This role has the potential to expand into business development, account management, and underwriting.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct on-site risk surveys for residential properties, including landed homes and high-value residences
- Assess the replacement cost of homes by adhering to accepted valuation methods
- Assess potential risk or catastrophe exposures and review the security and fire protection relative to the insurance coverages
- Keeping abreast of current building costs, changes to security/fire protection, construction techniques/materials, loss trends and undertake research projects as required
- Assess the adequacy of the client’s insurance coverages and supply the underwriter with sufficient information to pursue these coverages
- Provide risk management recommendations aligned with Chubb’s underwriting and appraisal guidelines
- Prepare risk assessment reports in accordance with Chubb’s underwriting and appraisal guidelines
- Any other services or deliverables as instructed by Chubb, including administrative duties
Required qualifications
- Degree or diploma in civil engineering, fire protection, building services, or a related discipline
- Strong willingness to learn from experts from a variety of disciplines
- Willingness to travel within Singapore when required
- Strong understanding of residential property construction, fire protection systems, and security controls
- Familiarity with Singapore property types, including landed homes and condominiums
- Knowledge of local fire safety, building, and regulatory requirements
- Good written and verbal communication skills
Preferred experience
- Experience in property risk engineering, insurance risk surveys, or a related technical field.
- Former or current registered Professional Engineer (PE)
- Prior experience working in insurance or financial institutions.
