Job Description

Responsibilities

About the role

The Legal Executive supports the Associate Director, Head of Legal & Compliance in delivering day-to-day legal and regulatory support across the Group. The role sits at the centre of the Group's contracting, corporate governance and compliance activity, and is intended as a development position for a junior lawyer who wants to build a broad in-house practice rather than specialize early. The successful candidate will draft and review commercial agreements, support corporate and secretarial workstreams, help build and maintain the Group's internal policy suite, and act as a first point of contact for business teams seeking legal input.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft, review, redline and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, service agreements, vendor and supplier agreements, distribution and reseller agreements, master service agreements, letters of intent and term sheets

  • Work from and improve the Group's standard practice; escalate deviations from standard positions to the Associate Director, Head of Legal & Compliance

  • Prepare contract summaries, risk notes and comparison tables to support commercial decision-making

  • Liaise directly with counterparties and their counsel on routine negotiations under supervision

  • Maintain the contract register and ensure executed documents are properly filed, tracked for expiry and renewal, and readily retrievable

  • Prepare board resolutions, shareholders' resolutions, powers of attorney and authorised signatory documentation

  • Support corporate transactions and intra-group arrangements, including document collation, condition precedent tracking and closing checklists

  • Monitor Malaysian and regional regulatory developments relevant to the Group's business and prepare short, decision-ready updates for management

  • Assist in preparing and updating internal policies, standard operating procedures, department audit checklists and compliance training materials

  • Conduct legal research and produce concise memoranda with a clear recommendation

About you

  • LL.B. (Hons) from a university recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board Malaysia, or the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP), or admission to the Bar of England & Wales or an equivalent recognised qualification

  • 0 to 3 years or 4-5 years (for Executive), 6 years or more (Senior Executive) post-qualification or post-chambering experience. Fresh admittees and candidates moving from private practice into a first in-house role are encouraged to apply.

  • Exposure to any of the following is an advantage: commercial contracts, corporate and M&A support, employment law, consumer credit or financing, technology and e-commerce, or regulatory compliance.

  • Prior in-house experience within a group corporate structure or a regulated industry (financial services, telecommunications, retail credit, device or electronics trade) is preferred but not required.

  • Candidates without direct sector experience will be considered where they demonstrate strong drafting ability and a clear capacity to learn quickly.

  • Completed pupillage and admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya (preferred)
