Job Summary

The Commis is an entry-level kitchen staff responsible for assisting in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen. The role supports senior chefs in ensuring all dishes are prepared according to company standards, quality, and hygiene requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist chefs in preparing ingredients (washing, cutting, chopping, marinating).
• Support basic cooking tasks under supervision of Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
• Follow recipes, portion control, and presentation standards set by the kitchen.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of workstations, tools, and kitchen equipment.
• Ensure food storage is properly labelled, rotated, and stored (FIFO system).
• Assist in receiving and storing kitchen supplies and ingredients.
• Follow food safety and sanitation standards (HACCP or company SOP).
• Support in dish plating and basic food assembly when required.
• Dispose of waste properly and maintain kitchen safety practices.
• Perform any other duties assigned by senior kitchen staff.

Requirements

• Minimum SPM or equivalent (culinary certificate is an advantage).
• Fresh graduates or entry-level candidates are welcome.
• Basic understanding of food preparation and kitchen operations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Good teamwork and willingness to learn.
• Physically fit and able to stand for long hours.

Working Conditions

• Shift-based work (including weekends and public holidays).
• Fast-paced kitchen environment with heat and standing work.
• May require overtime depending on operational needs.
