About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SAP Basis Consultant to join our Software Engineering team on a large-scale SAP Finance Modernization project for a global integrated oil and gas organization spanning upstream and downstream operations. As a Packaged/SaaS Application Engineer specializing in SAP Basis, you will configure, administer, and support the SAP technical landscape, ensuring system stability, performance, and reliability, while acting as a subject matter expert and technical mentor within the delivery team.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Basis Administration & System Management:

• Configure, administer, and support SAP Basis environments across development, quality, and production landscapes.
• Manage system installations, upgrades, patches, and kernel updates to ensure system stability and compliance.
• Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning to maintain high availability and reliability.
• Administer client copies, transport management (STMS), and system landscape maintenance.

Configuration & Optimization:

• Develop and implement configuration strategies that enhance application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Configure and support packaged/SaaS applications using standard tools, APIs, and low-code platforms to align technical solutions with business needs.
• Manage SAP user administration, authorizations, and role management in coordination with security teams.
• Support database administration activities (backup/recovery, performance monitoring) in coordination with DBA teams.

Solution Ownership & Delivery:

• Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for SAP Basis, providing technical guidance and best practices to the wider team.
• Take ownership of specific technical workstreams, ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery.
• Analyze system issues proactively and recommend improvements to optimize operational efficiency.
• Support integration between SAP modules and third-party/non-SAP systems from a technical infrastructure perspective.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

• Support and guide team members in resolving complex technical challenges related to packaged and SaaS applications.
• Mentor junior Basis administrators, sharing knowledge to strengthen overall team capability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (functional consultants, ABAP developers, infrastructure, security) to ensure seamless integration and alignment of solutions with business objectives.
• Take responsibility for team-level technical decisions and contribute to key design and architecture discussions.

Testing, Deployment & Support:

• Support release management, transport coordination, and deployment activities across development, testing, and production environments.
• Coordinate system refreshes, cutover activities, and post-go-live stabilization/hypercare support.
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive root-cause analysis to maintain system uptime and reliability.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to optimize processes, tools, and system performance.

Required Skills & Experience

Mandatory:

• Advanced hands-on experience in SAP Basis (minimum 5-8 years).
• Advanced proficiency in SAP Basis Administration — installations, upgrades, patching, and system landscape management.
• Strong experience with transport management (STMS), client administration, and system monitoring/performance tuning.
• Experience working in SAP S/4HANA technical landscapes.
• Strong understanding of SAP authorization concepts and user administration.
• Experience supporting enterprise SAP environments in a production support or full-cycle project delivery capacity.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for complex, cross-system technical issues.

Preferred Technical Skills:

• Experience with SAP HANA database administration.
• Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager (SolMan) for monitoring and change management.
• Exposure to cloud-based SAP landscapes (e.g., SAP on Azure/AWS/GCP) or SAP RISE.
• Knowledge of SAP security/GRC concepts as they relate to Basis administration.
• Experience with system migrations or upgrades (e.g., ECC to S/4HANA technical conversion.
