About Retu

Retu is An algorithm-native, multi-licensed financial services group. We build and operate systematic trading strategies across multiple regulated jurisdictions, with research and execution driven end-to-end by our own algorithmic infrastructure.

About the Role & Team Culture

· Flat Research Hierarchy: minimal bureaucracy. You work directly alongside Strategy Partners and Portfolio Managers, with a short path from research idea to production.

· Open Factor Ecosystem: full access to our shared factor library, operator infrastructure and feature pipelines from week one — no information silos, no redundant effort.

· AI-Native Workflow: we actively use AI agents, LLMs and intelligent development tools to augment research. We value system architecture, mathematical rigour and logic verification over manual boilerplate coding.

This is a genuine research internship, not a data-cleaning seat. Interns own a scoped research question and are expected to ship a reproducible result.

What You Will Work On

· Paper-to-Code: with a mentor's review, translate top-tier academic literature into executable backtests, and mine Alpha signals from Level-2 / tick, order book and alternative datasets.

· Feature Engineering & Modelling: build features and train / evaluate models (GBDT, time-series models, Transformers, GNNs) under strict anti-overfitting protocols — proper cross-validation, signal denoising, out-of-sample discipline.

· Workflow Automation: integrate LLMs and autonomous agents into the daily research pipeline to automate hyperparameter tuning, factor generation and PnL attribution.

· Code Quality & Auditing: review and harden AI-generated research code for execution efficiency, logical consistency and look-ahead bias prevention.

· Deliver a written research note and a reproducible repository at the end of the internship.

What You Must Bring

Required

· Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Financial Engineering or a closely related field. Exceptional final-year undergraduates will be considered.

· Demonstrable command of AI development tools and prompt engineering — you can show us an agent workflow or AI-assisted pipeline you actually built.

· Solid grounding in probability, linear algebra, time-series analysis and machine learning fundamentals.

· Able to commit to a minimum internship period, on-site at our Hong Kong Island office. Please state your available start date and weekly availability in your application.

· Legally entitled to undertake an internship in Hong Kong.

· Self-driven, detail-oriented, and committed to transparent, collaborative research — you show your working, including the parts that did not work.

Preferred (any of the following)

· Prior Alpha research exposure at a quantitative fund or proprietary trading desk, with a verifiable track record.

· Experience fine-tuning LLMs, building RAG architectures, or designing RL / AI agents for financial applications.

· ACM/ICPC awards, Kaggle top placements, or publications at NeurIPS, ICML or KDD.

· A public research repository, paper reproduction, or open-source contribution we can read.

What We Offer

· Direct mentorship from Strategy Partners and Portfolio Managers — you sit with the research desk.

· Day-one access to the shared factor library, backtest infrastructure and live market data.

· A named, scoped research project you can talk about in future interviews.

· Meal provided; on-site Hong Kong Island office.

· A clear conversion path: strong interns are considered for a full-time offer.

How to Apply

Apply through Indeed with your CV (English). To move faster, please also include:

· A link to your GitHub / research repository / published work, if any.

· A short paragraph (under 200 words) describing one AI-agent or LLM workflow you have built, what it automated, and how you verified its output was correct.

· Your earliest start date and how many days per week you are available.

Retu is committed to an inclusive workplace. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates and assess every application on merit.

Pay: $8,000.00 - $15,000.00 per month

Benefits:

  • Contract renewal
  • Meal provided
  • Professional development
