1. Engineering & R&D Leadership
- Lead and manage the R&D and engineering team, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and other relevant engineering functions.
- Establish engineering and R&D priorities in line with the Company’s business and product development objectives.
- Provide technical direction and guidance on complex engineering issues and development projects.
- Review and approve engineering designs, specifications, calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
- Promote engineering innovation, design improvement and continuous product development.
2. Product Development & Engineering Design
- Lead the full product development cycle from concept, feasibility study and design to prototype, testing, validation and production.
- Oversee the development and modification of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and integrated engineering systems.
- Ensure designs meet applicable technical specifications, customer requirements, safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, functionality, manufacturability and cost efficiency.
- Evaluate new technologies, materials, components and engineering solutions for potential application.
3. Engineering Projects
- Lead major R&D and engineering development projects and ensure timely completion according to agreed scope, budget and milestones.
- Establish project objectives, technical requirements, development schedules and resource requirements.
- Monitor project progress and resolve technical, resource and engineering issues.
- Work closely with project teams to manage engineering risks and ensure successful project delivery.
- Review project results and identify opportunities for further improvement.
4. Testing, Validation & Quality
- Establish and oversee engineering testing, prototype validation and product qualification processes.
- Ensure products are tested against applicable technical and performance requirements before release.
- Analyse test results, field issues and product failures and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Work closely with the Service and Engineering teams to investigate technical issues arising from products in operation.
- Drive continuous improvement based on customer feedback, service data and field performance.
5. Technical Standards & Compliance
- Ensure engineering designs and products comply with relevant international standards, classification requirements, regulatory requirements and industry practices.
- Keep updated on new engineering technologies, standards and regulatory developments.
- Establish and maintain engineering design standards, procedures and technical guidelines.
- Review and improve engineering processes to ensure consistency and technical quality.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales and Business Development teams to assess technical feasibility and develop solutions for customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Production, Procurement and Suppliers to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacturing.
- Support the Service team in resolving complex technical and field-related issues.
- Provide technical input for customer meetings, technical proposals and major projects when required.
7. Team Development and Training
- Lead, mentor and develop the R&D and engineering team.
- Identify training needs and arrange relevant technical training.
- Provide coaching and guidance to engineers.
- Support employees’ technical and career development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Hydraulics, Marine Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering and R&D experience, with significant experience in engineering management.
- Proven experience leading engineering design, product development and R&D projects.
- Strong knowledge of Marine engineering principles, product development processes and technical problem-solving.
- Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical or integrated engineering systems will be highly advantageous.
- Experience in the Marine engineering industry is a plus.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, testing and validation.
- Experience working with international ship owners, shipyard, suppliers, and engineering teams.
- Good command of written and spoken English and Korean, as the role requires regular communication with Korean shipyards and customers.
