Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Head of Technical & Governance to lead Life Insurance Underwriting technical governance, risk management, product underwriting development, quality assurance, and underwriting systems. The role will ensure strong underwriting standards, regulatory compliance, risk controls, and continuous improvement across the underwriting function.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain underwriting guidelines, frameworks and governance standards.
• Manage technical relationships with reinsurers and ensure treaty compliance.
• Oversee underwriting limits and Delegated Underwriting Authority requirements.
• Provide technical insights on claims, risk trends and underwriting performance.
• Support development and review of new Life Insurance products, including medical and financial underwriting requirements.
• Act as business owner for UWME, ensuring automated underwriting rules align with technical underwriting philosophy.
• Drive STP optimization while maintaining appropriate underwriting risk controls.
• Oversee underwriting quality reviews, identify technical gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver technical underwriting training, including complex medical and financial underwriting.
• Ensure underwriters meet the required technical competency before receiving higher delegated authority.

Requirements

• Degree in Medicine, Biomedicine, Science or a relevant discipline.
• 10+ years of Life Insurance experience, including at least 2 years in a senior underwriting leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of Life Insurance underwriting principles for individual and group products.
• Strong experience in underwriting governance, risk management and quality assurance.
• Knowledge of Malaysian Life Insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience with reinsurers and underwriting systems is highly preferred.
• Professional qualifications such as FMII, LOMA or FALU are advantageous.

Working Arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days from office per week
Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Pay: RM25,000.00 - RM30,000.00 per month

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur)
