Job Summary

Responsible for performing manual API testing of banking applications and services to ensure APIs function correctly, securely and reliably according to business and technical requirements. The role focuses on REST/SOAP API validation, integration testing, data validation, defect management and end-to-end banking transaction flows.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements, API specifications and technical documentation.
• Develop API test scenarios, test cases and test data based on functional and technical requirements.
• Perform manual testing of REST and SOAP APIs.
• Validate API requests and responses, including:
• HTTP methods
• Status codes
• Request / response headers
• Request / response payloads
• JSON / XML structures
• Response time
• Error messages
• Validate API business logic and transaction processing.
• Perform positive and negative API testing.
• Validate authentication and authorisation mechanisms such as OAuth, JWT, API keys and tokens.
• Test API input validation, boundary conditions and exception handling.
• Perform end-to-end integration testing across multiple banking applications.
• Validate data flow between APIs, backend systems and databases.
• Perform database validation using SQL queries.
• Verify transaction data against source and target systems.
• Test API integrations involving payment systems, core banking, digital banking and third-party services.
• Execute SIT, functional, regression and UAT support testing.
• Identify, document and track defects using tools such as Jira, ALM or Azure DevOps.
• Participate in defect triage meetings with Developers, Business Analysts and other testing teams.
• Perform defect retesting and regression testing after fixes.
• Analyse API failures and work with development teams to identify root causes.
• Prepare test execution reports and communicate testing progress and issues.
• Ensure adequate API test coverage for critical banking transactions.
• Support production validation and post-deployment testing.

• Strong experience using Postman and/or SOAP UI.
• Good understanding of REST and SOAP web services.
• Strong knowledge of HTTP methods and status codes.
• Good SQL skills for backend/data validation.
• Experience in SIT, functional, integration and regression testing.
• Strong defect management and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments.
• Banking or financial-services experience is highly preferred.
• Good understanding of banking transaction flows and system integration.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
