We’ve built a high-scale cross-border platform that processes billions in volume across 70+ countries, and has to be compliant with local regulations and laws in as many jurisdictions.

We’re now looking for an exceptional Engineering Lead to help us make sure we are compliant with all local regulatory requirements in a way that enables great customer experience and engineers to focus on improving the regional product. You will achieve this by building a centralised view of all obligations, respective controls, their performance and effectiveness; support and expand the centralised regional reporting capabilities we have.

All the above requires great attention to detail and diving deep into the requirements. To aid you in this we have a team of senior engineers and a product manager all co-located in Singapore.

How we work

We work in an agile fashion, with engineers closely collaborating with the product manager, compliance and analysts. The team is co-located in Singapore.

What will you be responsible for?

You’ll be joining Wise as an engineering lead for the Data Oversight team, and you will have tech lead and people manager responsibilities:

• As a tech lead, you will be responsible for the quality of your team’s technical solutions, including code quality, architecture applicability, performance, reliability and adherence to company-wide engineering standards. You will make sure that the team is building the right product for our customers in a scalable, sustainable way.

• As a people manager, you will be responsible for your team's productivity, goal setting, career path identification, and you’ll be supporting the engineers in their individual growth. Also, you’ll make sure the team has the right size and mix of people, you will decide when to hire and who.

Don’t worry, you and your team will be supported by the product manager, product compliance, analyst, and your lead.

What do you need?

We are fully aware that it is uncommon for a candidate to have all skills required and we fully support everyone in learning new skills with us. So if you have some of those listed below and are eager to learn more, we do want to hear from you!

• You have a strong product mindset, consistently prioritizing customer needs and making data-driven decisions.

• You have experience as a manager of more than 3 engineers, with a proven track record of guiding and developing engineers, fostering their growth, and building high-performing, autonomous agile teams.

• You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, have excellent communication skills, and a collaborative spirit.

• You have extensive experience with Java (8+) or Kotlin, including proficiency with the Spring framework and understanding of microservice best practices.

• You are skilled in working with relational databases, including query optimization and designing robust schemas.

• You are a strong advocate for best coding practices, enjoy writing testable code, and actively participate in code reviews and open feedback.

• Ultimately, you're someone who gets things done and consistently delivers results.

Nice to have:

• You have experience with regulatory compliance, especially within the Finance sector.

• You have experience building highly reliable and highly available systems.
