As a Full Stack Developer at BCRS Ltd, you will play a critical role in the end-to-end development of our software solutions. Working within an Agile environment, you will bridge the gap between business requirements and technical execution, ensuring our applications are scalable, secure, and highly performant. You will be taking ownership of both frontend and backend development while leveraging Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and enterprise data stacks.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain dynamic software applications and systems using React, Node.js, .NET C#, and RESTful APIs .

• Analyse business requirements and customize software solutions to meet both functional and technical needs effectively.

• Develop and optimize applications utilizing Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MSSQL , ensuring strict data integrity and high performance.

• Deploy, maintain, and support software applications securely on Microsoft Azure .

• Perform rigorous code reviews, testing, debugging, and swift issue resolution to guarantee software quality and reliability.

• Collaborate actively with cross-functional teams throughout the entire software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies .

• Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and provide ongoing application enhancements and production support.

• Undertake ad-hoc technical assignments and cross-functional projects as assigned, demonstrating flexibility to support evolving business needs beyond the core scope.

Requirements

• Education: Minimum Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Experience: At least 5 years of proven hands-on experience as a Full Stack Developer or in a similar software engineering role.

• Core Technical Skills:

  • Frontend: Strong proficiency in React .

  • Backend: Solid experience with Node.js, .NET C# , and building/integrating RESTful APIs .

  • Enterprise Data & Analytics: Proven experience managing enterprise data stacks, including MSSQL, PowerBI, and ETL processes.

  • Database: Strong knowledge of relational databases, including Azure Database for PostgreSQL .

  • Cloud: Familiarity with cloud platforms and deployment, specifically Microsoft Azure .

• Methodologies: Practical experience working within Agile/Scrum development cycles.

• Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills for cross-team collaboration, and a proactive approach to taking on diverse technical challenges.

The Beverage Container Return Scheme (BCRS) was recommended by a Citizens’ Workgroup in 2019 as part of efforts to protect the environment, conserve finite resources, and increase recycling rates in Singapore.

The Scheme is designed to spark behavioural change by encouraging more sustainable consumption habits and enabling the transition towards a circular economy.

Under the Scheme:

• Beverage producers and retailers are responsible for ensuring that beverage containers are properly collected and treated at end-of-life, and
• Consumers are encouraged to return empty containers for recycling in exchange for a deposit refund.

The Scheme contributes to a more sustainable Singapore by:

• Increasing the recycling rate of beverage containers and reducing waste sent for disposal;
• Encouraging consistent recycling habits among Singaporeans; and
• Aggregating a clean, high-quality stream of recyclable materials.

The impact of BCRS will be significant. The Scheme will cover more than one billion beverage containers used each year, allowing us to recover over 16,000 tonnes of material annually. This means less waste sent for incineration, lower carbon emissions, and a more circular economy.

BCRS is Singapore’s second Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme, following the introduction of the e-waste EPR framework in 2021. EPR schemes place responsibility on producers for the collection and end-of-life management of the products they put on the market. Over time they will make changes to their supply chains, processes and materials used, knowing that they have some responsibility for recycling the container after it is sold.

As a producer-led scheme, BCRS is designed and operated by the industry, for the industry. This approach allows producers to determine the most practical and cost-effective way to recover used beverage containers, while maintaining efficiency and service standards. Producer-led return schemes have been shown to be effective in countries such as Norway, Denmark and Lithuania.

Successful implementation requires the support, understanding, and shared commitment from all stakeholders involved: producers, retailers, recyclers, and consumers. There will be teething issues and adjustments along the way, but we can address them with everyone’s support. Launching the Scheme in April is the first step and adjustments will need to be made along the way, in order for the scheme to be effective and impactful.
