Job Description

Responsibilities

Our client is seeking an experienced Data Centre Mechanical Lead to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise throughout the design, review, and delivery of mechanical systems for mission-critical data centre projects. This role is responsible for ensuring mechanical engineering designs meet technical, operational, and quality standards while driving continuous improvements across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, review, and standardization of mechanical engineering designs, specifications, and technical standards for data centre projects.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the design and development of mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with project requirements and engineering best practices.
  • Review mechanical engineering drawings, BIM models, and technical documentation to ensure quality, coordination, and adherence to client standards.
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams to resolve design issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Perform technical reviews and QA/QC assessments on mechanical engineering deliverables.
  • Provide expert advice on the design, construction, commissioning, and operation of mechanical systems supporting mission-critical facilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, energy efficiency, operational performance, and cost-effectiveness through engineering enhancements and technology adoption.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical presentations, and documentation to support project decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee defect rectification, punch list management, final inspections, and project close-out activities.
  • Track project progress, technical issues, and project risks, providing regular updates and recommendations to the Technical Programme Manager and project leadership.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and provide technical direction to project stakeholders and external partners.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between internal teams, consultants, contractors, and vendors on all mechanical engineering matters.
  • Maintain engineering standards, specifications, revision-controlled documentation, and project records using project management platforms.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, documentation standards, and project delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, technical leadership, or project delivery within mission-critical infrastructure or large-scale construction projects.
  • Prior experience in data centre design, construction, or operations is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, chilled water systems, mechanical building services, commissioning, and engineering design principles.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings, BIM models, and multidisciplinary design documentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering collaboration platforms such as Google Workspace, BIM360, 3Dx, or similar document management systems.
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC processes, engineering standards, and design governance.
  • Excellent analytical, technical problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience coordinating consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, design guidelines, and continuous improvement initiatives is an advantage.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high-quality engineering solutions in a fast-paced environment.
