What You'll Do
As an Equipment Software Engineer based in Penang, you will play a pivotal role in developing manufacturing and test equipment software that supports the production of cutting-edge medical devices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve designing new software programs for equipment, updating existing systems as necessary, and ensuring all hardware/software is maintained according to rigorous validation standards. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams to provide technical support from an electronics and control perspective while also assisting manufacturing groups with troubleshooting issues or driving continuous improvement efforts. Training others on complex systems will be a key aspect of your role, as well as advising builders on control/wiring challenges. You will be responsible for procuring essential components, evaluating environmental impacts alongside EHS colleagues, developing integrated machine control solutions, preparing thorough documentation, and taking ownership of PC/database/SCADA systems onsite. - Design and develop robust software programs for new manufacturing equipment while updating existing systems as needed to ensure optimal performance.
- Operate and maintain electronic-controlled manufacturing equipment, becoming an expert in all relevant hardware and software systems onsite.
- Ensure all equipment systems are validated according to established procedures for hardware and software validation, including compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records and signatures.
- Provide comprehensive support to the Equipment Engineering group from an electronics, control, and computer perspective, including designing and implementing control systems for new machines.
- Assist manufacturing teams by troubleshooting downtime issues and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
- Deliver training sessions on equipment systems to technicians and engineers, offering guidance to builders and assemblers regarding control and wiring matters.
- Procure standard electrical and software components required for equipment maintenance or upgrades, ensuring timely availability of resources.
- Collaborate with EHS teams to evaluate new equipment, processes, or chemicals for environmental impact, working proactively to minimise negative effects.
- Develop machine control software that integrates seamlessly with controllers, motion controllers, vision systems, and other instrumentation used in production.
- Prepare detailed software design specifications and documentation for all equipment-related projects, maintaining clear records for future reference.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate for the Equipment Software Engineer role brings proven experience in engineering or computer science disciplines along with deep familiarity with automation technologies such as PC/PLC-based controls, motion controllers, vision systems, SQL databases, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Aerotech motion controls, VB.NET/C# programming languages. Your ability to analyse complex problems thoughtfully ensures reliable support for both engineering groups and manufacturing teams. You possess excellent interpersonal skills which allow you to train colleagues effectively while fostering collaborative relationships across departments. - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required for this position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of automation systems including PC/PLC-based controls, motion control technologies, and vision system integration.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as VB.NET or C#, enabling you to develop effective software solutions for manufacturing applications.
- Experience working with SQL databases coupled with strong troubleshooting/debugging skills for resolving complex technical issues.
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs as well as Aerotech motion control systems is highly desirable for supporting advanced automation projects.
- Excellent analytical abilities combined with problem-solving skills that enable you to support automation and manufacturing applications effectively.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive software design specifications along with associated documentation for equipment projects.
- Understanding of electrical safety standards and CE marking requirements applicable to industrial equipment installations.
