The Fulfilment Engineering team builds the technology that connects demand with supply across Grab’s services. We solve complex marketplace problems spanning allocation, driver experience, reliability and operational efficiency, supporting millions of transactions across Southeast Asia.
We work closely with Product, Data Science, Analytics, Operations and other engineering teams to develop scalable systems that improve the experience of our driver-partners and consumers.
Get to Know the Role
You will lead a team of software engineers responsible for building and operating critical fulfilment capabilities. You will create the conditions for the team to deliver reliable outcomes, grow strong technical leaders and translate product and business priorities into an effective engineering roadmap.
As an engineering manager, you will remain technically fluent while empowering senior individual contributors to lead architecture and detailed technical decisions.
You will report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager.
At Grab, we have 5-day in office arrangement.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
- Lead, coach and develop a team of software engineers, setting clear expectations and individual growth plans.
- Partner with Product, Data Science, Analytics and Operations to define priorities, roadmaps and measurable outcomes.
- Own planning and delivery of the team’s engineering roadmap, proactively managing dependencies and risks.
- Work with senior engineers to establish sound technical direction and make appropriate architecture and engineering trade-offs.
- Improve the reliability, scalability, security, observability and cost efficiency of the systems owned by the team.
- Establish effective engineering practices covering design reviews, testing, deployment, incident response and continuous improvement.
- Create an inclusive environment where team members have clarity, psychological safety and meaningful ownership.
- Attract, assess and retain strong engineering talent while contributing to hiring and talent development across Grab.
- Communicate progress, risks and decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What Essential Skills You Will Need
- At least eight years of software engineering experience, including designing and operating production systems at scale.
- At least two years of experience managing and developing software engineers.
- Hands-on experience building or integrating LLM and generative AI solutions, including model evaluation, prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation and production monitoring.
- Understanding of AI system risks, including hallucinations, data privacy, security, reliability, latency and cost.
- Strong foundation in backend engineering, distributed systems, APIs, databases and cloud infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver complex initiatives involving multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Experience coaching engineers, managing performance and supporting career development.
- Sound judgement in balancing product delivery, engineering quality, reliability and long-term maintainability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical and AI trade-offs clearly.
