Job Title: Secondary Commerce Teacher

Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Secondary Commerce Teacher to join our growing
school community. The successful candidate will primarily teach Cambridge IGCSE Business
Studies, Accounting and Economics at Year 10, with the expectation of supporting the cohort
through to Year 11 and their IGCSE examinations. The role also includes Year 9 Commerce,
which provides students with an introduction to all three subject areas.
We are looking for a teacher who can make Commerce engaging, relevant and intellectually
stimulating, helping students understand how businesses, markets, financial information and
economic decisions shape the world around them. The ideal candidate will be able to explain
concepts clearly, connect learning to real-world examples and build students' confidence in
analysis, evaluation and problem-solving.
At Ideas, teachers are encouraged to adopt student-centred approaches to learning, using
discussion, inquiry, case studies, collaborative learning and appropriate use of technology to
deepen understanding. As part of a small and growing school, the successful candidate should
also be flexible and willing to contribute to other secondary subjects or curriculum areas
where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies, Accounting and
Economics, with primary responsibility for the Year 10 cohort and the expectation of
continuing with students into Year 11 and their IGCSE examinations.
• Teach Year 9 Commerce as an introductory course covering key concepts from Business
Studies, Accounting and Economics.
• Prepare students effectively for Cambridge IGCSE assessment and examinations, including
development of subject-specific knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation skills.
• Use a range of strategies including inquiry-based learning, case studies, collaborative
learning, real-world applications and appropriate use of educational technology.
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, confidence
levels and learning backgrounds.
• Assess, record and report on student progress in accordance with school policies.
• Maintain a positive, focused and inclusive classroom learning environment.Student Support and
Pastoral Care
• Serve as a form tutor and support students' academic and personal development.
• Foster positive relationships with students and promote a culture of respect and
responsibility.
• Support students facing academic or personal challenges.
School Community
• Participate in school activities such as events, extra-curricular programmes and trips.
• Supervise students during breaks, duties and school activities.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support the school's mission and values.
Parent Partnership
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress.
• Provide updates on student successes and challenges in a timely manner.
• Support strong partnerships between the school and families.
Professional Development
• Participate actively in professional development sessions.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve teaching practices and curriculum planning.
• Reflect on teaching practice and engage positively in the school's teacher development
and evaluation processes.
• Keep up to date with relevant developments in Commerce education and the Cambridge
IGCSE Business Studies, Accounting and Economics curricula.
Job Competencies
• Strong subject knowledge across Business Studies, Accounting and Economics.
• Ability to explain commercial, financial and economic concepts clearly.
• Ability to connect subject content to current affairs and real-world contexts.
• Ability to plan structured, engaging and differentiated lessons.
• Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
• Confidence in using technology to support teaching and learning.
• Flexibility and adaptability in teaching different year levels and contributing to other
secondary subjects or curriculum areas where appropriate.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a small and growing school team.Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economics, Commerce, Education or a related
field.
• Teaching qualification or certification.
• Experience teaching secondary Business Studies, Accounting and/or Economics.
• Experience with Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies, Accounting and Economics is
highly desirable.
• Experience preparing students for external examinations is an advantage.
• Flexibility to teach or support other secondary subjects according to school needs and
individual strengths is an advantage.
