Automation Lead responsible for driving test automation using Playwright and Cucumber (BDD).

Essential Technical Skills

1. Core Framework Architecture & Scripting

Playwright Core: Strong expertise with Playwright APIs, auto-waiting, browser contexts, dynamic element handling, network interception/mocking, and multi-browser execution (Chromium, Firefox, WebKit).

Cucumber / BDD Mastery: Deep understanding of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), writing clean Gherkin syntax Step Definitions, Scenario Outlines, and Custom Hooks

Programming Languages: Advanced proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript (preferred Node.js stack for Playwright), or Java / Python depending on your tech stack.

Design Patterns: Expert knowledge of Page Object Model (POM) and custom World/Context wrappers for clean layer separation between business logic and UI automation.

2. Framework Integration & API Testing

API + UI Hybrid Testing: Ability to combine API automation (e.g., setting state, token generation via Playwright API Request Context) with UI testing to speed up test execution.

Data Management: Experience in data-driven testing, handling test fixtures, data masking/seeding, and external configuration files

Reporting & Parallelization: Setting up visual HTML reports (e.g., Cucumber HTML Reporter, Allure) and configuring parallel execution to optimize test run times.

3. CI/CD & DevOps Integration

CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Hands-on experience integrating Playwright-Cucumber test runs into pipelines like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.

Docker & Cloud Grids: Familiarity with running Playwright in Docker containers and integrating with cloud platforms like BrowserStack or SauceLabs.

Leadership & Execution Skills

1. Stakeholder Collaboration & BDD Enablement

Bridge Technical & Non-Technical Teams: Ability to facilitate BDD sessions with Product Managers (PMs), Business Analysts (BAs), and Developers to write clear, executable acceptance criteria.

Gherkin Quality Control: Ensuring feature files stay focused on business logic rather than technical/UI implementation details.

2. Team Delivery & Mentorship

Task Delegation & Code Reviews: Reviewing PRs from junior/senior automation engineers to maintain code quality, eliminate flakiness, and enforce best locator strategies.

Defect Triage & Reporting: Leading failure analysis using Playwright traces, video recordings, and failure screenshots to quickly isolate application vs. automation bugs.
