Role Description The Ocean Freight Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Changi, responsible for overseeing day-to-day ocean freight operations and ensuring smooth end-to-end shipment management. This role includes planning and coordinating ocean freight services, managing carrier and vendor relationships, and negotiating rates and service contracts. The Ocean Freight Manager monitors shipment performance, resolves operational issues, and collaborates with internal teams and external partners to meet customer requirements and service standards. Daily activities involve supervising documentation and compliance, optimizing routes and consolidation opportunities, and maintaining accurate tracking and reporting of shipments. The role also includes mentoring team members, contributing to process improvement initiatives, and supporting business development through operational expertise in ocean freight.
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in ocean freight operations, including carrier liaison, rate negotiation, and end-to-end shipment coordination.
  • Knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance relevant to ocean freight.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage logistics documentation such as bills of lading, shipping instructions, and export/import paperwork.
  • Proficiency in logistics and freight management systems, as well as standard office software used for planning and reporting.
  • Effective leadership skills, with experience supervising or guiding operations teams in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on efficiency, cost control, and service quality.
  • Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience in freight forwarding or logistics management; a diploma or degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Ability to work on-site in Changi, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing operational requirements.
