Chartering Manager (Dry Bulk & Container)


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage chartering activities for dry bulk and container shipments, ensuring efficient vessel sourcing and freight execution.
  • Partner with commercial, operations, and logistics teams to coordinate cargo nominations, laycan schedules, vessel fixtures, and post-fixture activities.
  • Monitor freight market movements, including dry bulk and container indices, to provide market insights and support freight procurement decisions.
  • Negotiate freight terms with shipowners, operators, brokers, and carriers to achieve competitive commercial outcomes.
  • Administer charter party agreements and oversee laytime, demurrage, and despatch claims, ensuring timely resolution of disputes.
  • Coordinate with port agents, terminals, surveyors, and shipping service providers to facilitate smooth cargo operations across regional ports.
  • Ensure all fixtures comply with applicable sanctions requirements, vessel vetting standards, P&I insurance, and maritime safety regulations.
  • Support freight budgeting, cost analysis, and continuous initiatives to optimize transportation costs.
  • Maintain close awareness of shipping market developments, vessel availability, and regional freight trends.


Cargo Coverage

Responsible for chartering activities supporting the movement of:

  • Steel and steel products
  • Iron ore
  • Coking and metallurgical coal
  • Ferrous and non-ferrous scrap


Cargo movements include both import and export trades across Asia via dry bulk vessels and container shipping.


Requirements:

  • Degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of chartering or freight management experience, with exposure to both dry bulk and container shipping.
  • Experience supporting commodities such as steel, iron ore, coal, scrap, or other bulk raw materials is highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of charter party agreements, Contracts of Affreightment (COA), laytime calculations, demurrage, and freight market fundamentals.
  • Established relationships with shipowners, operators, brokers, and freight market participants, particularly within China, Korea, and the wider Asia region.
  • Commercially astute with strong negotiation, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to perform effectively in a fast-paced international trading environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Singapore-based or eligible to work in Singapore.
