Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Description: Senior BIOS & BMC Firmware Engineer

Location: Penang (On-site / Hybrid Lab)

Type: Full-time

As a Senior BIOS & BMC Firmware Engineer at Overclock, you will serve as a core technical owner of platform firmware across our next-generation GPU-accelerated server portfolio. You will design, develop, and optimize x86/ARM Host BIOS (UEFI) and Out-of-Band Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware for enterprise-grade, high-density AI servers—including multi-GPU NVIDIA systems.

In this role, you will lead complex platform bring-up, integrate high-speed PCIe/NVLink top-level topology, refine thermal and telemetry firmware algorithms for liquid and air cooling, and implement robust Platform Root of Trust (RoT) security. You will collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Hardware Validation, and System Architecture teams from prototype stage through volume manufacturing and deployment.

Key Responsibilities1. BIOS / UEFI Development
  • Design, implement, and maintain low-level UEFI BIOS firmware for single and multi-socket Intel/AMD host platforms connected to high-density NVIDIA GPU baseboards.
  • Customize silicon initialization, memory tuning (DDR5), PCIe Gen 5/6 top-level enumeration, and ACPI tables to maximize throughput for NVLink, DPUs (BlueField), and high-speed NICs.
  • Optimize system boot speed, power-on sequences, and platform reliability features (RAS).
2. BMC Firmware & Out-of-Band Management
  • Develop and maintain BMC firmware (OpenBMC / AMI Megarac) supporting IPMI 2.0, DMTF Redfish APIs, PLDM (Platform Level Data Model), and NC-SI protocols.
  • Implement advanced out-of-band (OOB) telemetry, power capping, and high-frequency thermal fan-control logic tailored for high-density GPU chassis and liquid-assisted cooling environments.
  • Integrate NVIDIA GPU/SXM baseboard telemetry (SMBPBI, NVLink management) into the BMC architecture for real-time monitoring and event logging.
3. Platform Bring-up & GPU Hardware Integration
  • Lead joint hardware/firmware board bring-up for prototype server motherboards, GPU carrier boards, and rack-level systems.
  • Perform low-level hardware debugging and signal integrity triage using JTAG, logic analyzers, bus sniffers (I2C/SMBus/SPI), and PCIe protocol analyzers.
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to write factory test scripts, diagnostic tools, and automated firmware flashing utility tools.
4. Security & Compliance
  • Implement secure boot, platform attestation, and secure firmware update mechanisms (SPDM, TPM 2.0, Hardware Root of Trust / Cerberus).
  • Ensure compliance with OCP (Open Compute Project) and NIST firmware security guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent, with 5+ years of hands-on firmware engineering experience in server OEM/ODM or data center hardware environments.
  • Firmware Expertise: Strong C/C++ proficiency for embedded environments, paired with scripting skills in Python and Bash for build pipelines and validation automation.
  • Architecture Domain Knowledge:
  • BIOS: Hands-on experience with UEFI specification, EDK II architecture, ACPI, and x86/ARM host processor architecture.
  • BMC: In-depth knowledge of OpenBMC or commercial BMC codebases (AMI), DMTF Redfish, IPMI, PLDM over MCTP, and NC-SI.
  • NVIDIA / Accelerator Familiarity: Prior experience with NVIDIA GPU server topologies (HGX H100/B200/B300, MGX reference designs, PCIe switches, or NVLink interconnects) is highly advantageous.
  • Interface & Protocols: Solid understanding of high-speed and management bus interfaces including PCIe (Gen5/Gen6), I2C/SMBus, SPI, eSPI, UART, and I3C.
  • Debugging Skills: Demonstrated capability in board bring-up and hardware-software integration using JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers.
  • Lab & On-Site Capabilities: Comfortable working in a hands-on hardware laboratory, handling prototype boards, thermal test chambers, and server chassis.
