Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Chef to join our kitchen team at Kagayaki Steamboat & Grill. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in food preparation, kitchen operations, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene.

Candidates with prior experience working in a Halal-certified restaurant or kitchen, or who have been involved in Halal certification applications and compliance processes, will be given preference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook hot pot soup bases, dipping sauces, side dishes, cooked items, and BBQ offerings according to company standards.
  • Ensure all ingredients (meat, seafood, vegetables, and handmade items) are prepared fresh and presented consistently.
  • Monitor food quality, taste, portion control, and kitchen efficiency.
  • Plan staff schedules (rosters) and supervise the daily performance of kitchen team members.
  • Train, guide, and manage kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and adherence to SOPs.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards throughout all kitchen areas.
  • Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with the service team to ensure timely food preparation during peak operating hours.
  • Manage inventory, stock rotation, receiving goods, and ingredient freshness.
  • Plan and organize ingredient purchasing, ensuring timely ordering and proper stock levels to minimize wastage.
  • Assist in menu development, recipe standardization, and continuous kitchen improvements.
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Support and implement Halal kitchen practices and ensure compliance with Halal requirements where applicable.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Chef, preferably in hot pot, BBQ, or buffet restaurants.
  • Experience in leading and managing a kitchen team, including staff scheduling, supervision, and training.
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, kitchen operations, food safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Experience in Halal certification applications or operating a Halal-compliant kitchen is highly preferred. Candidates should understand Halal kitchen requirements, segregation procedures, and compliance practices.
  • Experience in inventory control, purchasing, and systematic ingredient ordering.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and perform well during peak hours.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Responsible, organized, punctual, and committed to delivering high-quality food and service.

Pay: RM2,400.00 - RM3,500.00 per month
