Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Haulage Planner to lead, optimize, and oversee our day-to-day container haulage and fleet operations. In this role, you will be responsible for maximizing fleet utilization, minimizing empty running, ensuring strict compliance with transport regulations, and delivering exceptional service to our shipping, port, and warehouse partners.

As a senior team member, you will also serve as the escalation point for complex route issues, mentor junior dispatchers/planners, and drive continuous improvement through transport management software (TMS) data analysis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Fleet & Route Optimization

• Plan, schedule, and dispatch daily container/goods movements across regional networks to maximize vehicle turnaround and driver productivity.
• Optimize load plans and routes to reduce fuel consumption, toll expenses, and empty-leg kilometers.
• Coordinate container quay/depot slots, port window bookings, and warehouse drop/hook appointments.

2. Carrier & Driver Management

• Oversee daily driver assignments, duty schedules, and rest cycles to comply with legal driving limits.
• Manage relationships with third-party hauliers and sub-contractors when additional capacity is required.
• Act as the primary escalation contact for drivers facing delays, port congestion, breakdowns, or road closures.

3. Client & Stakeholder Communication

• Serve as the main point of contact for key accounts, port operators, and freight forwarders regarding haulage schedules.
• Proactively notify clients of delivery windows, delays, demurrage risks, or detention issues.

4. Systems, Compliance & Reporting

• Maintain and update the Transport Management System (TMS) in real time with status updates, waiting charges, and extra charges.
• Monitor fleet health, ensuring vehicles stay compliant with MOTs, servicing, and inspection schedules.
• Analyze Transport Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)—such as On-Time In-Full (OTIF) rates, fuel usage, and cost-per-mile—to recommend process improvements.

5. Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide technical guidance and day-to-day direction to junior transport planners and execution staff.
• Cover out-of-hours or emergency escalation shifts as part of a senior rotation.

Requirements & QualificationsExperience:

• 3–5+ years of hands-on haulage/transport planning experience (container haulage, port operations, or heavy transport preferred).
• Proven track record in managing dynamic driver schedules and regional road freight operations.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in Transport Management Systems (TMS), vehicle tracking/telematics software, and route optimization tools.
• Strong knowledge of regional road transport regulations, driver hours rules, and port/depot procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets for reporting and data analysis.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent problem-solving skills under high pressure.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills with drivers, subcontractors, and clients.
• High geographical awareness and route-knowledge for major freight corridors.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management (or equivalent local qualification).
• Experience integrating route optimization algorithms or AI-driven TMS systems.
• Experience handling hazardous goods (ADR/DG compliance).

Pay: RM4,000.00 - RM5,000.00 per month
