ABOUT THE ROLE

The Financial Controller is responsible for the overall financial management of the Company, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, statutory requirements, sound internal controls, and other corporate directives and objectives related to financial/accounting activities. This role supports the Company's transition to a more structured, professionally managed organisation and oversees key administrative functions to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. Strategic financial leadership across the Company is a plus point.


WHAT WILL YOU DO

A. Financial Operations & Compliance

  1. Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, statutory requirements, and internal policies.
  2. Lead and manage the annual business plan and budgeting process for the Company, ensuring timely, accurate, and relevant management reporting to support decision-making.
  3. Manage overall company tax compliance, strategic tax planning, and cash flow management to ensure maintain optimal liquidity and working capital efficiency.
  4. Lead and manage the transition from MPERS to MFRS, including assessment of key impact areas, development of a conversion roadmap, preparation of opening balances, and ensuring full compliance with applicable standards and disclosure requirements.


B. Commercial & Retail Finance

  1. Drive commercial finance by analysing business performance, including store-level and channel profitability, product margins, and return on investment for marketing and operational activities.
  2. Oversee inventory and cost management, ensuring effective control over stock valuation, shrinkage, and overall cost efficiency in a retail environment.
  3. Highlight financial trends, key performance indicators, and performance gaps; provide actionable recommendations to improve profitability and efficiency.
  4. Manage the day-to-day treasury operations, including cash flow monitoring, fund transfers, bank account administration, and ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational requirements, while coordinating with the fund-level team on any treasury-related matters, if required.


C. Governance, Systems & Internal Controls

  1. Establish and strengthen governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks across the Company.
  2. Continuously review and improve financial processes and systems, including integration with retail and e-commerce platforms, to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency.
  3. Maintain strong relationships with the leadership team by providing timely financial insights and evaluating the financial implications of business decisions.


D. Team Leadership

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team; build capability and foster a high-performance, collaborative culture.


E. Financial Reporting & Shareholder Requirements

  1. Lead and manage the monthly financial reporting to shareholders, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of reports in accordance with fund-level requirements. Act as the primary point of contact for any ad hoc financial requests or queries from shareholders, providing comprehensive responses and analysis as needed to support fund-level reporting and compliance obligations.
  2. Prepare, consolidate, and submit monthly financial reports to shareholders by coordinating with internal teams to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting templates and deadlines.
  3. Liaise with the fund-level team to operationalise reporting requirements, ensuring all financial submissions comply with fund standards, including any changes to reporting frameworks or accounting policies.
  4. Respond promptly to ad hoc financial queries from shareholders, preparing well-supported financial analysis, schedules, presentations, or commentary as required.
  5. Maintain a structured monthly reporting calendar, proactively identifying and escalating any reporting issues while continuously improving reporting processes and templates for efficiency and accuracy.


F. Administration Oversight

  1. Oversee key administrative functions through an Admin Executive / Coordinator.


G. Strategy & Corporate Finance

  1. Support corporate finance and strategy activities, including evaluation of investments, funding requirements, and capital structuring where required.
  2. Contribute to the overall Company financial strategy formulation and review implementation as the business scales.


EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CPA, CA) is essential
  • Minimum 10-15 years of experience in finance, preferably within retail, FMCG, or e-commerce environment
  • Proven experience in financial leadership, strategic planning, and business partnering
  • Experience in MPERS to MFRS conversion is highly preferred
  • Strong financial acumen, analytical capability, and strategic thinking skills
