Role Description

The Senior Controls & Programming Engineer is responsible for designing, programming, and deploying control systems that power advanced automation platforms, including AI-driven machine vision and defect rejection capabilities. This role requires a highly skilled individual with deep expertise in PLC programming, industrial control systems, motion control, and system integration.


This position involves hands-on development of PLC logic, HMI configuration, system troubleshooting, control schematic drafting, and commissioning of automation solutions. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in programming and deploying control systems in manufacturing environments.


Job Descriptions / Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of PLC and HMI programs for automated systems integrated with machine vision inspection and automated defect rejection systems.
  • Design and develop control architectures, electrical control systems, and schematics for new automation equipment, system upgrades, and retrofits.
  • Develop, review, and manage control panel schematics and electrical documentation using AutoCAD Electrical, ensuring compliance with project and safety requirements.
  • Integrate and configure sensors, actuators, motion control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and machine vision systems to deliver reliable and cohesive automation solutions.
  • Lead system integration, testing, commissioning, debugging, and optimization activities at the company and customer sites.
  • Analyze complex control system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive solutions to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, software, and machine vision teams to ensure seamless system integration and robust automation solutions.
  • Review and optimize existing PLC and HMI programs to improve machine performance, reliability, maintainability, and overall system efficiency.
  • Participate in technical and design reviews, providing expert input on control architecture, system functionality, safety, and engineering best practices.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including control logic, electrical schematics, I/O lists, system architecture, software documentation, and commissioning records.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians in PLC programming, control systems, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure automation projects are delivered according to agreed technical specifications, quality standards, project timelines, and customer requirements.
  • Support customer demonstrations, technical discussions, and on-site troubleshooting when required.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend new technologies or engineering approaches to enhance automation capabilities.
  • Assist with ad hoc technical tasks and assignments related to control systems, PLC programming, electrical engineering, or automation operations as required by management to support overall business and project objectives.


Skills & Experience

  • Proficient in programming industrial PLCs such as Omron and Mitsubishi.
  • Experience configuring and deploying HMI systems.
  • Proficient in drafting control schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Hands-on knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA).
  • Experience integrating motion controllers, servo drives, VFDs, and robotics with control systems.
  • Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and control panel layouts.
  • Strong understanding of control system safety (e.g., ISO 13849, CE marking, OSHA standards).
  • Preferred: 4–5 years of experience in controls programming within automation or manufacturing sectors.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with integrating machine vision systems into automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with edge computing or industrial IoT platforms for data logging or remote diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of structured text, function block, and ladder logic programming.
  • Background in real-time troubleshooting and root cause analysis for control systems.
  • Strong project management and documentation skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external vendors or system integrators.
  • Certification in industrial automation, controls engineering, or related disciplines is an advantage.
