Fashion Designer cum Pattern Maker
Modest Wear & Ready-to-Wear
We are looking for a creative and commercially minded Fashion Designer cum Pattern Maker to join our team. The ideal candidate understands the local modest-fashion market and is capable of developing stylish, practical and production-ready collections that meet current customer demands.
You will be involved throughout the entire product development process—from trend research and initial design concepts to pattern-making, sample development, fitting and mass production.
Key Responsibilities
- Research local and international fashion trends, including fabrics, colours, techniques, silhouettes and styles.
- Develop commercially viable modest-wear and daily-wear collections for the local market.
- Create design sketches manually or using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Prepare mood boards, colour palettes, fabric selections and design presentations.
- Present design concepts and collection proposals to top management.
- Manage the design process from initial concept to final styling and production.
- Create paper patterns and cut patterns suitable for sample-making and mass production.
- Sew or assist in producing samples and design prototypes.
- Conduct sample fittings and make the necessary adjustments to patterns, measurements and construction.
- Ensure the finishing quality, fit and measurements of new samples meet the approved specifications before mass production.
- Select suitable fabrics, colours, trims and accessories for each design.
- Work closely with the sales, buying, creative and production teams to ensure each product meets customer preferences, market demand and target price points.
- Monitor daily in-house and outsourced production progress.
- Coordinate the purchase of sewing materials, trims and accessories required for daily production.
- Assist with photoshoot styling and coordinate fitting sessions with models.
- Conduct post-launch reviews with the team by analysing sales performance and customer feedback.
- Perform other ad hoc duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- Candidate must possess at least a Diploma, Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Postgraduate Diploma or Professional Degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Art, Creative Multimedia or an equivalent field.
- Proficient in hand sketching and/or fashion design software or CAD.
- Able to create paper patterns independently.
- Skilled in using industrial or domestic sewing machines.
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fabric selection, sizing and fitting.
- Knowledgeable about current modest-wear trends and the Malaysian fashion market.
- Strong creative, conceptual and practical design skills.
- Able to translate creative ideas into realistic and production-ready garments.
- Confident in presenting design concepts to top management.
- Able to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
- Detail-oriented, responsible and able to work well in a team.
- Must be available to work on Saturdays.
- Applicants must submit a portfolio of previous fashion designs, patterns or completed garments.
