About the role
Vertical Institute is looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to lead and strengthen our people function as the company continues to grow across B2C and B2B training.
This is a senior, hands-on HR role reporting directly to the CEO, with responsibility across Singapore employment law, HR compliance, employee relations, HR policies, performance management, talent acquisition oversight, HR operations, and strategic HR partnering.
Strong knowledge of Singapore employment law and hands-on employee relations experience are essential for this role.
You will work closely with the CEO and department heads to provide practical HR advice, manage people risks, strengthen HR processes, and build scalable people practices for a growing organisation.
Key responsibilities
HR Compliance & Employment Law
- Own and maintain employment contracts, HR policies, and the employee handbook.
- Advise management on Singapore employment law, including the Employment Act, MOM requirements, CPF obligations, and relevant employment guidelines.
- Ensure compliance across payroll, leave, statutory benefits, and employment-related requirements.
- Monitor changes in Singapore employment legislation and update HR policies and practices accordingly.
- Manage employment-related regulatory and statutory matters, including documentation and follow-up.
- Maintain accurate and audit-ready HR records and documentation.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Handle employee relations matters, including disciplinary cases, grievances, investigations, performance issues, and terminations.
- Advise managers on appropriate and legally compliant approaches to employee matters.
- Conduct and document investigations and grievance processes fairly and consistently.
- Support managers in performance management and employee development.
- Ensure HR decisions and actions are properly documented and aligned with company policies and employment regulations.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Oversee the talent acquisition function and work closely with the TA team to ensure effective and timely hiring.
- Ensure recruitment practices are fair, consistent, and compliant with employment requirements.
- Own and improve the employee onboarding process from offer acceptance through probation completion.
- Partner with hiring managers on workforce planning and recruitment priorities.
- Ensure appropriate HR practices for offshore and contractor positions.
HR Operations & Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a lean HR team covering HR operations, payroll, onboarding, and employee engagement.
- Establish clear HR processes, SOPs, checklists, and service standards.
- Review and continuously improve HR systems and operational workflows.
- Ensure HR records and processes remain accurate, consistent, and audit-ready.
- Support government grant and manpower scheme applications where applicable.
Strategic HR Business Partnering
- Partner with the CEO and department heads on organisational design, workforce planning, headcount requirements, and people strategy.
- Identify people risks relating to retention, performance, capability, employee relations, and compliance.
- Provide practical recommendations to management on people-related challenges.
- Develop HR reporting and insights that give leadership visibility into workforce trends and organisational health.
- Support initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, culture, performance, and organisational effectiveness.
Requirements
- 6–10 years of progressive HR experience, including meaningful experience in a senior HR or HR Business Partner role.
- Strong and demonstrable knowledge of Singapore employment law is essential.
- Hands-on experience managing employee relations, disciplinary matters, investigations, performance issues, terminations, and grievances.
- Experience drafting and reviewing employment contracts, HR policies, and employee handbooks.
- Strong understanding of MOM requirements, CPF, statutory employment obligations, and HR compliance.
- Experience partnering with senior leadership and advising managers on complex people matters.
- Experience leading or supervising a lean HR team.
- Strong HR operations and process management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.
- Strong judgement, attention to detail, and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline.

- IHRP certification or equivalent HR professional qualification.
- Experience managing offshore, remote, or multi-jurisdictional employees.
- Experience in a fast-growing SME, technology, education, training, or professional services environment.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
- Experience managing government grants or manpower-related schemes.

Pay: Up to $7,000.00 per month
