About Us

SPH Media’s mission is to be the trusted source of news and lifestyle content in Singapore and Asia.

One of our core purposes is to produce credible, balanced, and objective news and analysis, always with a view to uphold the public good and fostering an informed, engaged citizenry.

We welcome talented individuals to join us and grow a career in a vibrant and collaborative environment built around a culture of respect and inclusivity.

As an employer, we are committed to rewarding our people fairly and developing them in their careers.

About the Role

The Business Times (BT) is a premier business daily published by SPH Media; providing trusted coverage and analysis of business, markets and the economy in Singapore and beyond.

We are looking for an Editor (Audience Lab) to lead audience development and innovation for The Business Times. Working closely with various stakeholders including editorial, social media, visuals, video, podcast, data and other teams, the candidate will develop and execute audience strategies that will grow BT’s reach, engagement and loyalty.

This is a strategic and hands-on role for someone who understands both quality journalism and digital audience behaviour. The successful candidate will be expected to bring a strong audience perspective into the newsroom while also developing practical strategies to grow readership across touchpoints including search, social, direct channels and emerging platforms.

The successful candidate will also help build a stronger audience culture within BT, ensuring that data and insights are used not simply to measure performance, but to inform decisions about what we cover, how we shape our journalism and how we reach different audiences.

The role reports to the Executive Editor.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute an audience/digital strategy for BT across digital platforms and channels. Establish clear audience priorities, processes and measurement frameworks.
  • Lead and manage BT’s multimedia, optimisation and amplification teams, including digital strategy, social media, video, audio, visualisation and other digital formats, aligning their efforts to maximise the reach, engagement and impact of BT’s journalism.
  • Identify opportunities to grow reach among existing and new audiences, both in Singapore and international markets.
  • Leverage audience data and insights to inform editorial planning, content formats, and new initiatives.
  • Drive a culture of testing and continuous improvement, working with internal and external stakeholders to experiment, evaluate results and scale successful audience strategies.

Job Requirements

  • At least 8–10 years of relevant experience in audience development, digital publishing, journalism, content strategy, growth or a related field.
  • A strong interest in business, financial markets, economics and issues shaping Singapore and regional markets.
  • Proven experience developing and executing audience growth strategies in a media, publishing or content organisation.
  • Strong understanding of digital audience behaviour and the media landscape across search, social, newsletters and emerging platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to use audience data and analytics to inform editorial and business decisions.
  • Experience working closely with editors, journalists and cross-functional teams in a newsroom or content environment.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, AIO, social media, and digital distribution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into clear recommendations and action.
  • Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in video, podcasts and/or visualisation/digital graphics will be an advantage.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with a strong understanding of journalism, audiences and digital platforms.

You are comfortable working with editors and journalists, interpreting data, developing audience strategies and rolling up your sleeves to test and execute new ideas.

You are naturally curious about why audiences behave the way they do, and are able to turn audience insights into practical recommendations that improve both reach and engagement.

You are also a strong collaborator who can influence across teams, challenge conventional thinking and build support for new approaches.

Above all, you understand that audience development is not simply about generating traffic. It is about building a larger, more engaged and more loyal audience for BT, while strengthening the reach and impact of its journalism.
