We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer to own our backend services and WhatsApp chatbot, with a clear trajectory to step into a Technical Lead role within 12 to 18 months.

Working directly alongside the Engineering Manager, you will spend most of your time building backend services, APIs, and chatbot integrations while taking ownership of architecture decisions, design reviews, and engineering standards.

Prior formal leadership experience is not required, provided you have a strong desire to step up, mentor peers, and follow a defined progression path. Since our platform processes financial product comparisons under strict guidelines from banks, insurers, regulators, and Meta, success in this role requires an engineer who thrives when solving complex logic within heavily regulated environments.

What You’ll Do:

Back-end and chatbot (your main focus)

• Build and maintain our services and APIs, including the gateway for WhatsApp for Business and the chatbot

• Own integrations with vendors such as Meta Cloud API, including versioning and contract discipline

• Own monitoring, alerting, on-call and postmortems for what you run

• Make and document architecture decisions for these streams

Front-end

• Contribute to our user-facing web applications

• Review front-end designs alongside the developers who own that stream

• Agree API contracts with the front-end developers

AI-assisted development

• Work in agentic workflows day to day, and keep the repository rules and context files that make them reliable

• Review AI-generated code to a standard you can explain

• Help us work out what the rest of the team should adopt, and what it should not

Security

• Apply SSDLC practices: input validation, secure authentication, error handling, dependency management

• Review both AI-generated and human-written code for security problems

• Meet our security standards and those of our partners and regulators

Working with the team

• Raise the level of the engineers around you through code review and design review

• Work with PMs, QAs, designers and DevOps to ship features end to end

• Spot problems in performance, scalability, UX or security before they surface

What You Have:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience focused heavily on backend systems (we prioritize the complexity and scope of what you have delivered over total years).

• 1–2 years as the primary owner of a live production service, including hands-on experience with on-call rotation, incident management, alerting, and postmortems (a formal lead title is not required).

• Strong proficiency in Golang and JavaScript/TypeScript, alongside hands-on experience with relational or NoSQL databases (MySQL, MongoDB), caching layers (Redis), and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).

• Ability to architect scalable systems, articulate and defend technical decisions, and flexibly adapt your approach when presented with stronger ideas.

• Practical application of Secure Software Development Life Cycle (SSDLC), automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and agile delivery principles.

• Practical experience using AI tools to boost daily engineering productivity, with a clear understanding of their strengths and limitations.

Strong written and spoken English with high attention to detail.

Bonus Point If You Have

• Experience mentoring developers, leading initiatives without a formal title, or establishing engineering practices that your team adopted

• Hands-on experience shipping live AI features—including prompt engineering, retrieval (RAG), evaluations, hallucination control, latency, and cost optimization.

• Track record of introducing AI tools or workflows to a team and measuring their impact on productivity.

• Direct experience with the Meta Cloud API (WhatsApp Business) or similar conversational messaging platforms.

• Strong commitment to Test-Driven Development (TDD), shift-left testing, and automated security testing practices.

• Familiarity with SEO/GEO practices (structured data, semantic markup, sitemaps) or frameworks like MarkoJS and WordPress.
