Job Description

Requirements

The company integrates and services gas analysers, dust and opacity monitors, liquid analysers and sampling systems for Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEMS) and environmental monitoring, deploys its own CEMS data software at client sites, and services Expo purging systems for the oil and gas sector. We also take on ad-hoc instruments when a project calls for them. Our technical knowledge today lives in a few people's heads and is passed on by watching. That does not scale, and it leaves the business exposed every time someone is on site, on leave or resigns.

This role turns that knowledge into something the company owns: training material, standard documents, a deployable software process, and one person the team calls first when something technical goes wrong. It is a senior individual-contributor role. You will not manage the project engineers or technicians; you will make them better, and you will be the technical authority they and Sales rely on.

You will be learning our analysers alongside the team in your first months. We expect that. What we are hiring is the ability to learn a system deeply, write it down clearly, and teach it — and you will be measured on exactly that.

Responsibilities

1 · Technical training for every product line

•     Learn every product the company sells or services, hands-on at site, working with the senior technicians and vendor documentation. Today that is gas analysers (currently MIR 9000, MGA 20, EL 3000, MCA 10), dust and opacity monitors, liquid and water-quality analysers and the Expo purging system — but the range is not fixed. Any new analyser, brand or product the company brings in, and any ad-hoc instrument a project calls for, becomes yours to learn, document and teach.

•     Build a training module per product (slides, procedures, common faults, calibration steps) and deliver it to the team. Where a product is still new to the company — or a one-off for a single project — work out the method: vendor training, manuals, supervised site visits — and document what we learn so the knowledge stays with the company even if the product never comes back.

•     Run structured training sessions and refreshers; tie them to the company's Rating Scale and Skill Matrix so a technician who completes your training can be verified at a defined level.

2 · CEMS software — ownership, deployment and training

•     Take over the CEMS data software end to end: installation and setup (4–20 mA and direct-value channels), data logging, MySQL database checks, DOE data format, delete-and-reupload procedures and portal upload issues.

•     Write the deployment procedure and train new staff to deploy it without you. You are the escalation point when a client's data stops, jams or is rejected.

•     Maintain and improve the software itself. You will be handed the source code and are expected to work on it using AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code): fix bugs, add features clients ask for, and keep the DOE data format current — without depending on the original programmer.

•     Use your signal-protocol and IoT background to improve how analysers talk to the software — Modbus, 4–20 mA scaling, remote access — and to reduce site visits that are really configuration problems.

3 · Standard documents and AI-assisted drawings

•     Standardise every project and service document: service reports, commissioning reports, calibration certificates, checklists and handover packs. One template per document, used by everyone, client-ready without correction.

•     Review the team's reports against the standard until the standard holds on its own.

•     Develop an AI-assisted AutoCAD workflow for our engineering documents — GA, wiring and P&ID drawings generated or updated from templates and project data using AI tools — write it up as a protocol, then teach the project engineers to use it so drawing time falls and consistency rises.

4 · Technical support to Sales

•     Accompany Sales to client sites for surveys; help specify the right analyser, sampling system, software and integration for the site conditions, and put it into a clear technical spec that Sales can quote from.

•     Answer clients' technical questions during the sales process so Sales does not over-promise or under-specify.

5 · First call for technical issues

•     Be the person technicians, project engineers, Customer Service and clients come to when something technical is stuck — by phone, remotely, or at site when it needs you.

•     Work the fault through to root cause, then turn what you learned into a training note or a change to the procedure, so the same fault does not need you next time.

•     Go to site whenever the job needs you or the team is short of manpower — installation, calibration, service or commissioning — including East Malaysia and offshore. This is a hands-on role, not a desk role.

•     As the senior technical escalation point, respond to urgent, reasonable work requests outside normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays when required. Urgent means a failure affecting live monitoring, compliance reporting or critical customer operations. Take ownership of the issue: assess its impact, guide the immediate response, coordinate the people needed, and follow it through to resolution or a clear handover — remotely or at site as the situation needs. Standby coverage and response expectations are set out in the company's standby arrangements; pay or time-off for work outside normal hours follows those arrangements, and any change to them is communicated in advance wherever practicable.

Who we are looking for

•     Diploma or degree in Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronic or a related field.

•     8–10 years in industrial instrumentation, monitoring or telemetry systems, with real site experience: installation, calibration, commissioning, FAT/SAT, fault-finding. Water quality, environmental monitoring, SCADA or telemetry backgrounds are welcome — gas analyser experience is an advantage, not a requirement.

•     Strong on signals and communication: 4–20 mA, Modbus, RTU/PLC I/O, IoT and remote data — and comfortable with databases, software deployment and reading code. Willing to learn AI-assisted coding tools to maintain our software; prior programming (Python, PLC or scripting) is an advantage.

•     Has trained people before, and can explain a system in a way a technician remembers.

•     Writes clearly. Procedures, reports and specs you produce should need no rewriting.

•     Learns fast and admits what they do not know yet — you will be learning our analysers with the team, and the team needs to trust that.

•     Owner mindset: treats a recurring fault as a gap in the procedure, not as someone else's problem.

•     Must be willing to travel throughout Malaysia, including East Malaysia and offshore, at short notice when required; medically fit for offshore work; valid driving licence; fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and English.

Benefits

  • Annual Leave
  • EPF
  • SOCSO
