Job Title: Metro E & DIA Field Technician

Location: KL Sentral & Subang Jaya

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Metro E & DIA Field Technician to join our network engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end physical deployment, activation, and troubleshooting of Metro Ethernet circuits and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) solutions for our enterprise and wholesale customers. You will work directly on-site at customer premises and central offices to ensure seamless service delivery and high-performance connectivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation & Activation: Strong hands-on experience working with fiber-related infrastructure, including Fibre and Optics, with the ability to read and interpret fiber schematics and diagrams. Install, provision, and configure Edge routers, Network Interface Devices (NIDs), media converters, and carrier-grade switches at customer demarcs and data centers.
• Fiber & Copper Testing: Perform comprehensive Layer 1 through Layer 3 testing, including fiber characterization, OTDR testing, light level measurements, and RFC 2544 / Y.1564 Ethernet loopback testing.
• Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve complex circuit issues, packet loss, latency, and physical layer faults using network analyzers and test sets.
• Cross-Connects & Cabling: Run, terminate, and dress Cat6, single-mode/multi-mode fiber patch cables, and coordinate inside wiring extensions.
• Collaboration: Partner closely with the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Provisioning teams to execute clear-channel testing and bring circuits live.
• Documentation: Maintain precise records of site audits, test results, photos, and circuit layouts in the company inventory system.
• Ability to work on-site in outdoor and indoor environments, sometimes during extended hours, and to travel within Selangor as project needs require.

Qualifications & Skills

• Technical Experience: 2+ years of hands-on experience working with Metro Ethernet (E-Line, E-LAN) and Dedicated Internet Access architectures.
• Hardware Knowledge: Familiarity with carrier equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, ADVA, or Raisecomm.
• Testing Expertise: Proficient in operating network test equipment (e.g., Viavi, EXFO, JDSU) for Ethernet throughput and bit error rate (BERT) testing.
• Network Protocol Basics: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLAN tagging (802.1Q, Q-in-Q), BGP, OSPF, and MPLS concepts.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces (telecom closets), lift up to 50 lbs, and color-differentiate cabling.
• Logistics: Valid motorcycle & car driver’s license with a clean driving record. Flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation for emergency network repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install and activate GPON/FTTX (FTTH/FTTO) broadband services for residential and business customers.
• Install and configure ONT/ONU, Wi-Fi routers, and mesh systems.
• Perform fibre testing, service activation, and speed verification.
• Troubleshoot fibre, internet, Wi-Fi, and network-related issues.
• Carry out maintenance and repair works.
• Complete service reports and update work orders.
• Deliver excellent customer service while ensuring quality installations.
• Comply with company SOPs and safety standards.

Requirements:

Junior Technician

• SPM, Certificate, or Diploma in Telecommunications, IT, Electrical, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in GPON/FTTX (FTTH/FTTO) installation and troubleshooting.
• Basic knowledge of fibre optic systems and networking.

Senior Technician

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in GPON/FTTX (FTTH/FTTO) installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Strong technical knowledge of GPON networks, fibre testing, and customer support.
• Able to work independently and mentor junior technicians.

For All Applicants

• Experience with OPM, VFL, fibre termination, router configuration, and basic networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, PPPoE). OTDR experience is an advantage.
• Possess a valid Malaysian Motorcycle and Car Driving Licence.
• Must own a motorcycle for field troubleshooting and customer visits.
• Willing to travel and work outdoors.
