Founded by Raphael Nat Wallis, the first Wallis store opened its doors in 1923, introducing London to a collection of coats and dresses that set the standard for quality and style. The early slogan, 'Comparison invited. Competition defied," reflected our commitment to offering unparalleled fashion choices.

Under the leadership of Jeffrey Wallis in the 1950s, Wallis gained acclaim for its 'Paris Originals,' presenting meticulous reproductions of top couture clothes showcased in Paris. The store's dedication to capturing the essence of fashion shows from renowned designers like Courrèges, Chanel, and Dior garnered a devoted following.

In the late 1960s, Wallis shifted its focus to emerging British designers, aligning with the vibrant trends of Swinging London. Our influence expanded globally, with collections showcased in the US in 1964, comprising 70 coats, suits, and dresses. Sylvia Ayton, head of outerwear, played a pivotal role in translating Parisian designs to Wallis stores, contributing to our reputation for swift and trendsetting fashion.

Building on steady growth in the UK, Wallis expanded into Europe, establishing its presence in Germany, Switzerland, and Sweden by 1976. The brand continued to grow, opening outlets in Saudi Arabia and South Africa through franchise and licensing agreements. In 1980, Wallis became part of the Sears Group, later transitioning to the Arcadia Group in 1999 following Sir Philip Green's acquisition of Sears.
