About Skrine

Skrine began as a Firm on 1st May 1963 with Mr. John Skrine, Dato’ Dr. Sir Peter Mooney, Mr. Stanley Peddie, Mr. William Donald Bewsher and Mr. Chin Yoong Chong as its founding Partners. The founding Partners were already well-established lawyers in the country at that time, and had practised in the Firm of Bannon & Bailey; then one of the oldest law firms in the country. Mr. John Skrine’s father had in fact practised law in Malaya (as it was known then) as far back as 1920.

Skrine has since 1963, grown rapidly in pace with the country’s growth. The Firm’s former Partners include the late Tun Hussein Onn, the third Prime Minister of Malaysia and Dato’ Alex Lee, a well-known Deputy Minister in the country.

By the 1990s, the Firm’s advocates and solicitors had increased by more than tenfold since its inception. Its practice also expanded into various areas of law, reflecting the depth and complexities of modern business and financial transactions. In keeping with the changing times ‘Skrine & Co’ became ‘Skrine’ on 1st January 2000.

Today, Skrine is one of the largest law firms in Malaysia providing a comprehensive range of legal services to a large cross-section of the business community in Malaysia as well as abroad. The Firm’s clients range from individuals to some of the largest Malaysian and international corporations, as well as financial institutions and government bodies.
