About Penang State Symphony Orchestra & Chorus

The Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Chorus also known as PESSOC was officially formed in August 1996 under the chairmanship of Yang Berhormat Dato' Kee Phaik Cheen, Chairman of the Penang State Cultural Council. This state supported non-profit organisation formerly known as the Festival Chamber Orchestra and then the Penang State Youth Orchestra, has a colourful history dating back to 1985.
PESSOC's Aims:
- To help raise the standard of orchestral and choral music in the State.
- To promote educational, cultural and social development, especially among the young.
- To enhance the quality of life of the people of Penang through its concerts and presentations.
- To help in the development of musical talents especially among the young.
- To promote good music including Malaysian music.
- To encourage musical activities in the State.
