About Hotel Equatorial Management Sdn Bhd

With over 50 years of experience in the hospitality industry, the Company has established itself as a leading operator of hotels in Asia. As a hotel group, we are positioned as a Superior First Class chain of hotels. The Company was formed by the Lim Kah Ngam group of companies in 1969. Operations began in Malaysia in 1973 when Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur opened. This formed the basis of the development of the Company’s own brand of affordable business-class accommodations.

By the early 1980’s, the Company had already earned a reputation for offering comfortable and quality accommodations together with excellent food and beverage services. In 1984, expansion of the chain was initiated and work began on next Equatorial, located in Penang, the heart of Malaysia’s semi-conductor and technological base. By the early 1990’s, the scope of operations expanded into Vietnam when work began on Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City and started its operation in 1995. It is then followed by the opening of Hotel Equatorial Melaka in 1998. Now, a legend reborn when EQ (formerly known as Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur) starts its operation in the first quarter of 2019.
