About CHILD INFORMATION, LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

CHILD is a voluntary social movement that attempts to optimize opportunities for the less fortunate and disadvantaged children in our midst to realize their full potential.

 

CHILD was incorporated in December 1984 under the Companies Act 1965 and operates as a voluntary non-profit organization, funded solely from the general public and subscription of its members. The promoters of the company render their services without receiving any payment or allowance.

 

Over the last 25 years CHILD has conducted 6 Core Programmes consisting of Preschool, Reading and Writing (RAW), Special Learners’ Programme (SLP),Comprehensive Integrated Tamil School Programme (CITS),Post Primary Programme (YPG/CARE) and CHILD Rehabilitation and Home away from Home facilities (KAMAKSHI).

 

CHILD has since its inception, subscribed to the view that early education of children is the way forward for the community in its quest for socio-economic progress.

 

The basic philosophy of CHILD stems from its conviction that if a child born into an underprivileged home is to grow into an adult with self-confidence and self esteem, imbued with universal values and impregnated with the skills and desire to contribute to the growth and development of society, of which he is an integral part he must be nurtured during the critical period of his life, between the ages of 5 to 15 years.

 

CHILD’s 6 Core Programmes revolve around its objectives of:

 

Providing Educational assistance for needy children and youths, irrespective of race religion or creed.

 

Organizing of Educational programmes for the growth and development of children,

 

Organizing of Youth developing programmes, to motivate them to realize, explore and exploit their own inherent talents, skills and potentials towards a better quality of life.

 

Assisting children to achieve their optimal potential.

 

Assisting Tamil School children attain parity with the National average.

 

Building a cohesive and caring community of children and

 

Instilling values of Love, Reverence and Compassion.

 

 

CHILD programmes are therefore specifically tailored to benefit children between the ages of 5 to 15 years, focusing on our goal which is:” Less privileged and disadvantaged children realize their optimal potential.”

 

CHILD provides quality affordable fun-learning preschool education to children from working class backgrounds and creates opportunities for the children to discover within themselves their talents and inherent potential; motivation to seek knowledge and realize that knowledge is both fun and useful

 

Today, Child’s programmes benefit more than 25,000 children in the Federal Territory and 10 of the 13 states in Malaysia. These cover both the tangible benefits which can be measured like results and the intangible benefits which is “A change in the attitude” of Parents, Teachers, Children and the Community as a whole.
