Role Description

This is an on-site role for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Evlos, located in Puchong. You will play a key role in the design and development of custom automation and AOI machines. This position requires strong technical design skills, independent problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Descriptions / Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver mechanical designs for automation and engineering projects, including structural frameworks, motion systems, mechanical linkages, safety mechanisms, machine components, assemblies, jigs, and fixtures.
• Translate functional and technical requirements into robust, practical, and manufacturable mechanical solutions while considering performance, reliability, cost, and ease of manufacturing and assembly.
• Develop detailed 3D models, 2D engineering drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using CAD software, primarily Autodesk Inventor.
• Perform mechanical calculations, tolerance analysis, design validation, and technical evaluations to ensure the functionality, accuracy, and reliability of mechanical designs.
• Maintain strong technical knowledge of mechanical components and systems, including actuators, bearings, linear guides, cylinders, drive systems, structural frames, and other machine elements.
• Review mechanical designs, 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOMs to ensure accuracy, functionality, manufacturability, compliance with internal engineering standards, and alignment with customer specifications.
• Work closely with the Design Lead, Project Engineers, Electrical and Control Engineers, Fabrication, Production, and other relevant departments to ensure effective system integration and alignment on technical requirements and project timelines.
• Participate in design reviews, customer meetings, project discussions, and technical evaluations to communicate design concepts, address technical concerns, and provide appropriate mechanical solutions.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles, engineering best practices, safety requirements, and internal design standards throughout all stages of the design process.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues during fabrication, machine assembly, testing, installation, and final commissioning, providing timely technical support to project and production teams.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior mechanical designers, drafters, and interns when required, including design reviews, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing.
• Develop and prepare detailed 3D proposal models and mechanical concepts based on customer requirements during the project enquiry and proposal stage.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical design processes, standards, templates, component libraries, and engineering practices to improve design efficiency, consistency, and quality.
• Manage assigned mechanical design deliverables and priorities to ensure designs are completed within project timelines and required quality standards.
• Assist in any ad hoc tasks or assignments related to mechanical design, engineering, or technical operations as required by management to support overall business and project objectives.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 4 years of hands-on mechanical design experience in automation, machine building, or custom equipment.
• Proficient in Autodesk Inventor. 
• Strong understanding of mechanical components such as actuators, bearings, guides, cylinders, drive systems, and frame structures.
• Familiarity with GD&T, fabrication processes, and engineering tolerances.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical design issues independently during assembly or testing.
• Good communication and documentation skills for technical drawings, BOMs, and reports.
• Experienced in BOM management and revision control practices.
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability for your work.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in AOI or vision system machines.
• Familiar with vibration control, rigidity design, and high-speed motion systems.
• Exposure to risk assessments and machine safety compliance (e.g., CE/ISO standards).
• Understanding of how mechanical designs integrate with electrical/control systems.
• Ability to liaise with suppliers, fabricators, and component vendors.
• Hands-on support experience during machine build and commissioning phases.
