The Industrial Information Systems Engineer is responsible for delivering and supporting industrial information system projects for manufacturing customers. The role focuses on historian systems, industrial application platforms, Unified Namespace (UNS) solutions, industrial system integration, and custom software development. The engineer will participate throughout the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, development, testing, deployment, commissioning, documentation, and post-implementation support. The role requires the ability to connect industrial systems, applications, and data sources across both Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) environments.
Responsibilities
- Deliver industrial information system projects from requirements gathering through commissioning and support.
- Gather and analyze customer requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Design, configure, implement, and support industrial historian solutions, including but not limited to: AVEVA PI System, AVEVA Historian, Canary Historian, AspenTech InfoPlus.21
- Implement and support industrial application platforms, including but not limited to: Ignition, AVEVA System Platform
- Develop industrial applications, dashboards, reports, interfaces, and data-processing solutions.
- Implement UNS architectures using technologies such as MQTT and Ignition.
- Integrate PLCs, SCADA systems, historians, databases, enterprise applications, and third-party software.
- Configure and troubleshoot OPC connectivity using Kepware and other OPC software.
- Develop and maintain custom software components, scripts, utilities, and integration services.
- Prepare technical documentation, including:
-Functional and technical design specifications
-System architecture and interface documents
-Test plans and test records
-Installation and configuration procedures
-User and support documentation
- Perform factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training.
- Diagnose and resolve software, database, communication, and integration issues.
- Provide remote and on-site support for implemented solutions.
- Collaborate with customers, project managers, automation engineers, software developers, and infrastructure teams.
- Follow project engineering, cybersecurity, version control, testing, and change management practices.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with Ignition, AVEVA System Platform, AVEVA PI System, Canary Historian, or AspenTech InfoPlus.21.
- Experience configuring Kepware or other OPC connectivity software.
- Knowledge of Unified Namespace architecture and MQTT-based industrial integration.
- Knowledge of ISA-95 and IT/OT architecture concepts.
- Experience with REST APIs, web services, JSON, XML, or other application integration technologies.
- Experience with Python, PowerShell, C#, Java, or other programming and scripting languages.
- Familiarity with Git or another version control system.
- Experience using AI-assisted development environments and coding agents, such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent tools.
- Understanding of Windows Server, virtual machines, networking, firewalls, and related infrastructure concepts.
- Familiarity with containers, Docker, cloud platforms, or cloud-connected industrial solutions.
- Understanding of industrial cybersecurity principles and secure system implementation practices.
- Experience working in manufacturing, process industries, or other industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and industrial automation system architectures
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Computer Science or related field
- 1-3 years experience
- Experience in configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting systems
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
