Job Purpose
The Customer Engineer plays a critical role in supporting both the Sales and Marketing functions by providing technical, commercial, customer coordination, and marketing execution support throughout the customer lifecycle.
As CSM is a highly technical engineering and manufacturing company, this role requires an engineering-trained professional with strong technical understanding, coordination capability, and customer engagement skills. The role acts as a bridge between customers, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Marketing, ensuring smooth execution from quotation stage, order closure, manufacturing coordination, delivery management, after-sales support, and marketing activities.
This position combines technical sales support + customer coordination + marketing coordination, making it suitable for candidates who are technically competent and highly organized in execution.
Candidates from Oil & Gas, industrial engineering, process systems, piping, cryogenic, gas systems, pressure equipment, fabrication, or technical manufacturing industries are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Sales Support & Proposal Management
- Support Sales Engineers and Sales & Marketing personnel in preparing technical quotations, proposals, tender submissions, and commercial documentation.
- Review customer inquiries, technical specifications, drawings, datasheets, and project requirements to ensure technical accuracy and feasibility.
- Coordinate with internal Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Costing teams to obtain technical and commercial inputs.
- Assist in technical clarification, proposal revisions, costing alignment, and customer inquiries during the sales cycle.
- Ensure quotation and proposal submissions are accurate, professional, and completed within timeline.
2. Quotation Follow-Up & Customer Order Closure Support
- Work closely with front-end Sales Engineers to follow up quotations, proposals, and customer responses until successful order closure.
- Coordinate customer clarifications and internal discussions to improve quotation conversion effectiveness.
- Ensure customer expectations, technical requirements, and delivery commitments are aligned internally before order confirmation.
- Support the Sales team in maintaining strong responsiveness and customer engagement.
3. Customer Order Coordination & Delivery Management
- Act as a coordination bridge between customers and internal teams once customer orders are secured.
- Communicate with customers regarding order progress, manufacturing status, project milestones, and delivery lead times.
- Monitor manufacturing schedules and internal execution progress to ensure committed delivery timelines are met.
- Coordinate closely with Planning, Production, QA/QC, Procurement, Logistics, and Engineering teams to proactively identify and resolve potential delays.
- Escalate critical risks affecting customer commitments to management when necessary.
4. Existing Customer Support & Account Coordination
- Support Sales personnel in managing existing customers, repeat orders, and customer servicing activities.
- Maintain strong communication with customers to ensure high responsiveness and long-term relationship management.
- Assist in identifying additional opportunities through strong understanding of customer operational needs and technical requirements.
- Support customer retention and account continuity through excellent service coordination.
5. Warranty Claims & RMA (Return Material Authorization) Coordination
- Coordinate and manage customer warranty claims, complaints, and RMA cases professionally and efficiently.
- Liaise with Engineering, QA/QC, Production, and Technical teams to investigate root causes and corrective actions.
- Ensure timely communication and issue resolution with customers.
- Follow through until closure and maintain proper records for warranty and RMA documentation.
6. Marketing & Exhibition Coordination
- Support the Marketing function mainly through coordination and execution activities.
- Continuously monitor, identify, and propose relevant industrial exhibitions, trade shows, conferences, and technical events to Management for consideration.
- Coordinate with exhibition organizers on booth reservation, event requirements, logistics, technical submissions, and participation arrangements.
- Support Management in planning and coordinating:
- Booth location selection
- Booth design concepts and setup coordination
- Exhibition layout and customer engagement flow
- Budget planning and cost coordination
- Marketing materials and product displays
- Demo products and technical samples to be showcased
- Coordinate internally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales teams to determine appropriate products and technologies to showcase based on exhibition industry focus (e.g., Oil & Gas, Industrial Gas, Semiconductor, Medical, Engineering, Manufacturing, etc.).
- Ensure exhibition preparation, execution, and post-event coordination are completed professionally and within timeline.
- Assist in lead collection coordination, post-exhibition follow-up, and event outcome reporting.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Act as a communication bridge between Customers, Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing, QA/QC, Procurement, Logistics, and Marketing.
- Ensure customer technical requirements and delivery expectations are clearly communicated internally.
- Coordinate effectively to ensure smooth customer experience throughout the project/order lifecycle.
8. Customer Experience & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain professional, responsive, and technically competent communication with customers.
- Gather customer feedback and recommend improvements to customer servicing and internal workflows.
- Support continuous enhancement of customer experience, coordination efficiency, and internal responsiveness.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of working experience in customer engineering, technical sales support, project coordination, manufacturing coordination, engineering support, or related technical-commercial roles.
- Candidates from Oil & Gas industry are highly preferred, particularly those with exposure to:
- Process systems
- Piping systems
- Gas systems
- Pressure equipment
- Industrial engineering
- Technical project coordination
- Experience in industrial manufacturing, engineering products, cryogenic systems, gas industry, fabrication, pressure vessels, or technical equipment supply will be an added advantage.
- Experience in customer coordination, quotation support, delivery follow-up, warranty claims, RMA handling, or exhibition coordination is preferred.
