The cybersecurity industry is an arms race, with security products and malware fighting each other. There are many open-source malware implementations which provide examples of the huge variety of malware communications protocols. This project aims to add to the defenders’ arsenal of capabilities by investigating open-source malware implementations and devising ways to detect the communications activities of these malware.
Scope & Deliverables
Setting up a safe sandbox to analyse malware.
Explore and study open-source malicious communications and techniques.
Recommend strategies for detecting such malicious communications and techniques. Where applicable, develop a proof-of-concept for such detections.
Where applicable, develop tools, processes and recommendations to improve analysis work.
