Technical Engineer (IT Infrastructure)

Location: Petaling Jaya
Salary: RM5,000 – RM7,000 per month
Employment Type: Contract; renewable

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Technical Engineer to support IT infrastructure within a non-UNIX environment. The role involves preventive maintenance, infrastructure troubleshooting, technical support and project deployment for customers.

The successful candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Microsoft/Windows infrastructure, VMware and server environments, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Schedule and perform onsite preventive maintenance activities.
• Provide onsite and offsite technical support to customers.
• Troubleshoot infrastructure issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Configure, troubleshoot and support Windows-based infrastructure environments.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to Level 1 Engineers.
• Prepare preventive maintenance, incident and problem management reports.
• Update service, installation and support tickets in the Field Service Management System.
• Handle small-scale technical projects independently.
• Assist in larger infrastructure implementation and deployment projects.
• Ensure project deployment is completed according to agreed timelines.
• Conduct system testing and commissioning with customers.
• Document technical issues and implementation findings for future reference.
• Prepare and maintain relevant technical/project documentation.
• Submit timesheets and required updates to the Technical Lead/Manager.

Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent.
• Minimum 2–4 years of relevant IT infrastructure/system engineering experience.
• Good hands-on knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
• Experience with VMware vSphere, vCenter and/or Hyper-V.
• Good understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP and routing.
• Strong IT troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Able to work independently as well as within a technical team.
• Comfortable providing customer-facing onsite technical support.
• Willing to be on 24/7 standby on a weekly rotation basis.
• Willing to work after office hours, weekends or Public Holidays when required.

Experience or knowledge in any of the following will be advantageous:

• VMware vSphere / vCenter / SRM / HA
• Microsoft SQL, SCCM or SCOM
• Backup solutions such as Veeam, Veritas or EMC Networker
• SAN Storage – EMC / NetApp
• HP or IBM Servers / Blade Servers
• Relevant certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, MCTS, MCITP, VMware VCP, ITIL or HP certifications

Salary Range: RM5,000 – RM7,000 per month
