The Employment Insurance System (EIS) is a government initiative under PERKESO to provide financial support to employees who lose their jobs. Both employers and employees contribute a small percentage of the employee’s salary to this scheme, ensuring that workers have temporary income and job search assistance if retrenched.

In this article, we will break down the EIS contribution table for Malaysia in 2024, explain how much you contribute, and how you can benefit from it.

What Is EIS & Why Is It Important?

EIS is designed to help employees who have been retrenched or lost their jobs due to redundancy, company closure, or other valid reasons. Here’s why it matters:

  • Financial Assistance – Provides temporary financial relief while you look for a new job.
  • Job Search Assistance – Offers reskilling programs and job placement services.
  • Training Programs – Helps unemployed individuals upgrade their skills to increase employability.

How Much Can You Get from EIS?

EIS benefits are paid out based on a percentage of your last drawn salary, up to a maximum of six months. The rates decrease over time:

  • 1st month – 80% of last drawn salary
  • 2nd month – 50% of last drawn salary
  • 3rd & 4th month – 40% of last drawn salary
  • 5th & 6th month – 30% of last drawn salary

Example Calculation:

If you earned RM3,000 before losing your job, your EIS payout would be:

  • 1st month: RM2,400
  • 2nd month: RM1,500
  • 3rd & 4th month: RM1,200 each
  • 5th & 6th month: RM900 each

Total benefit over six months = RM9,600
