Job Description

Responsibilities

Love cooking? Love people? This could be your next chapter.

If you are the person your family turns to for a good home-cooked meal, a recipe tip, or a trusted dish for gatherings, we would love to meet you.

At Food Playground, we believe food has a special way of bringing people together. We run hands-on Singapore cooking classes for tourists and corporate groups, and our instructors are not celebrity chefs or high-profile food personalities. They are warm, humble home cooks who enjoy sharing real food, real stories and real hospitality.

This role is especially suitable for homemakers, full-time caregivers, return-to-work individuals and active seniors who may have been away from the workforce for some time and are looking for flexible, meaningful work.

You do not need teaching experience. You do not need to be a professional chef. We will train and mentor you step by step. What matters most is that you enjoy cooking, enjoy people, and are willing to learn.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct 2 to 3 guided cooking or baking sessions per week
  • Each session is about 6 hours
  • Demonstrate cooking steps clearly and patiently
  • Share recipes, cooking tips, food stories and personal experiences with guests
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment for people from Singapore and around the world
  • Follow Food Playground’s class flow, recipes, hygiene standards and service standards
  • Be part of a close-knit team that laughs, learns and supports one another
You Will Be A Great Fit If You:
  • Are looking for flexible part-time or freelance work, not a full-time job
  • Can commit to at least 3 days per week
  • Are available on weekday mornings and afternoons
  • May be available on some weekday evenings or weekends
  • Are a confident home cook with at least 10 non-pork dishes you can cook or bake well
  • Enjoy interacting with people from different backgrounds
  • Can cook and chat at the same time, like you do at family gatherings
  • Are patient, humble and willing to learn
  • Are open to training, feedback, correction and mentoring
  • Are comfortable standing, cooking, speaking and engaging guests during a 6-hour session
This Role Is Especially Suitable For:
  • Homemakers or stay-at-home parents who enjoy cooking for family and friends
  • Full-time caregivers looking for flexible and meaningful work
  • Active seniors who enjoy meeting people and sharing food knowledge
  • Return-to-work individuals who want to rebuild confidence in a supportive environment
  • Home cooks who enjoy sharing recipes, stories and practical cooking tips
This Role

May Not Be Suitable

If You Are:
  • Looking for a full-time office job
  • Looking for a professional chef, restaurant cook or commercial kitchen position
  • Looking for a fresh graduate management trainee role
  • Mainly seeking a corporate career-switch programme
  • Mainly looking to build a chef portfolio, influencer profile or personal cooking brand
  • Uncomfortable being trained, observed or corrected by others
  • Uncomfortable speaking with guests while cooking
  • Unable to commit to regular weekday daytime sessions
About Food Playground

Food Playground is an award-winning cooking school providing cultural cooking classes and corporate team-building workshops since 2012.

We are also a social enterprise with a mission to create flexible work opportunities for locals, especially homemakers, caregivers, return-to-work individuals and active seniors who may have limited avenues to re-enter the workforce.

Every instructor starts somewhere. Many of our team members began simply as home cooks who loved cooking for their families and sharing recipes with friends. With training, mentoring and encouragement, they grew into confident culinary instructors who now inspire guests from all over the world.

If you have been away from work for some time, please do not let that stop you from applying. If you are warm, willing to learn, and proud to share good home cooking, we would be happy to hear from you.

Food Playground is an award-winning cooking school providing cultural cooking classes and corporate team building workshops since 2012. We are consistently rated 4.9/5 on Google (4,000+ reviews) and Tripadvisor (2,000+ reviews). Unlike other cooking schools that hire only professional chefs, we have a unique social mission of providing flexi-work employment opportunities for stay-at-home mothers and active seniors who have limited avenues to return to the workforce.

Being a social enterprise from day one, we empower these women through structured training in facilitation and public speaking to develop them into confident culinary instructors and event facilitators. All our instructors are amateur home cooks with no prior teaching experience, but they are all willing to learn on-the-job and get mentored by our veteran instructors.
